DC reboot is not winning for me.

I've tried and I've tried and I have read all the "reboots" and still I don't get it. None of it winning for me.

Do any of you think DC will go back to another Earth or something to please the old school people?

I would like to see this happen right here.....a beat down on the new guy. I hate his new outfit!

    Is it just me?

None of the New 52 comics DC is putting out is of any interest to me. Likely, as I'm not the target audience for these books.

Besides, I'm having more fun re-reading the classic DC collections I have!
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

DC is acting like the New 52 really gave their line a shot in the arm, but I read that their sales are basically back to what they were in 2010, which weren't that great. Not sure if that's true or not.

Publishing 52 mediocre comics, mostly by 90s creators who were long forgotten seems a little silly to me. How about publishing 20 GREAT comics, with great creators telling new stories of classic characters?

I realize that's too foreign of a concept for the corporate types to embrace.

When I read modern comics and hear about crazy press shenanigans (gay Green Lantern) I wonder the same thing. What in the world is wrong with writing great stories coupled with great artists. I don't mind if a character has a particular persuasion or problem or whatever, but don't make it the selling point. I feel like DC doesn't have their finger on the pulse of readers. I teach in a high school and NONE of the kids read, (only when forced) and let alone read comics. However, many of my adult friends and colleagues do spend money on comics. While I'm not asking DC to cater only to my particular age group I do think focusing on a younger readership alone might be a mistake. Good stories stand the test of time (Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns, Kingdom Come). I repeat good stories great artists.

Yeah, I don't know what the net gain was for DC. They did get bigger sales when the line first started and some titles are still doing better now than a year ago, but I just think the market for comics is pretty small, and I don't think it matters much to non-readers whether there are seams all over the costumes or Superman had red trunks or not. I think the people who are inclined to read comics end up finding them, but I'm not even sure that great stories across the board would vastly increase the readership. If anything possibly could, it's may be the easy access of digital comics, but most traditional readers still prefer the floppy or trade format and younger one would rather play games or text their friends than read or look at comics.

I like some of the New 52, but would prefer they had stayed with a more traditional continuity and injected some updates into it. I really don't know of much done with the characters in the New 52 universe — other than getting rid of some marriages — that couldn't have been done just as easily in the old continuity.

My three favorite DC titles right now are Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman. I like Snyder and Capullo (sic?) on Batman, but the whole supernatural element to the Court of Owls story doesn't ring true to me. Batman plays on superstitions but his world doesn't mix particularly well with the supernatural on an ongoing basis. Occasionally, yeah, but as the heart of a year-long story, no.

I like much of what Morrison has done with Superman and was liking Perez's version through the first 3 or 4 issues, but have yet to read further than that. The creative teams have been so spotty. I don't mind creative changes after an arc, but doing 4 issues of a six-part story then throwing a non-related two-parter in and then coming back with the final two issues of the first story just kills any momentum.

I'm giving Earth 2 a chance because I respect Robinson and Scott's work. I honestly like the way this is being treated as a whole new deal in most respects rather than the arbitrary nature of the changes with the primary New 52 books. I don't care that the new Alan Scott is gay because he's a totally different character, just with the same name. As Robinson writes more about him I'll see if I like him or not. So far, he's an OK character. Haven't read issue No. 3 yet.

I do have a feeling, though, that the longer the New 52 series run that they will come to be more like the old continuity. May be wrong about that. But again, after a year, I don't know what the net gain for DC was.

But I think that.... in a way.... was the idea. They got a big boost at the beginning, and as it cruises to a crawl they prep the NEXT reboot. Wash. Rinse Repeat. I don't think they're plan is to bring in a horde of new readers, either. It was demonstrated in one of our discussions that Marvel and DC are basically swapping the same fan base.

            >What in the world is wrong with writing great stories coupled with great artists.

Nothing. It worked well for a decade's worth of Japanese stuff. But....

            >How about publishing 20 GREAT comics, with great creators telling new stories of classic characters?

.... how do you define "great?" I know a lot of the established comic crowd would say stuff like "bring back Byrne! His FF was AWESOME!!!" Or "do stories like the old Justce League!" Or maybe "I wish Ditko was still doing books!" All of which is the slightly older fan equivalent of putting mediocre 90's guys who've been long forgotten on books. Everyone gets stuck in their rut.

My take would involve finding new folks to produce the books, and diversify the books you're putting out. Problem there is that a significant number of the Marvel/DC crowd are stuck in their rut.... be it the 80's, 90's or whenever.... and would be resistant to new. That's a problem 'cos they're your first line of fandom.... possibly your ONLY line of fandom, unless you could get folks outside the "comic shop" community interested. A tricky task, 'cos someone who might be interested in something a little different is never gonna think to walk into a comic shop and pick it up. And the folks already in the shop aren't going to care.

Not sure how typical of a customer I am, but I never bought a single DC comic before the relaunch. Now I get the new batman, and batman inc and really like both of them.

I like Justice League and Batman (the Owl storyline is really interesting). And Catwoman. And Green Lantern....nothing else really interests me.

And Marvel is going to relaunch most of their titles with #1 issues (AGAIN!). What will that be, X-Men #1 Volume 8?

Fact is, at least for me, is that if I don't like the character, no matter how many #1 reboots they try, I'm not buying it. Seems like a lot of other folks feel the same way.

I was thinking about the titles I'm still buying and noticed that they're titles that didn't change, or had very little change, after the 52 hiccup.

This is what DC should have or be doing....
"Hmmm our 52 is really doing OK with some and crapping out with others. We should create our own Ultimate Universe. Like Marvel did. Except they didn't totally wipe our their universe and replace them with with a bunch of hoodwinks." Hopefully? Maybe?? Nah....probably not

DC universe kept my favorite Earth 2 Superman hidden like a dirty secret from their past for almost two decades. I guess I shouldn't bet on DC trying to do something like this for their fans. Keep on rolling with the crap DC.....I know I've cancelled the majority of your stuff especially now Earth 2 (not a homophobe but what was done to Alan Scott was distasteful).
