I'm not sure what was or wasn't Perez's work on Superman. I liked the portrayal of the the back-up characters while he was on the book. Haven't read it since he left.
It does seem like the tail wags the dog with Morrison and other creators at times with DC. Perez, too, though. His projects generally had been off schedule until the DCnU mandated no extended deadlines, except for Johns/Lee's JLA, of course, which has a floating due date.
Would love to see Perez draw an arc of Justice League or Green Lantern or Nightwing or Flash or Aquaman at some point.Comment

It's sad when a writer like Morrison dictates more of what's going on with the direction of titles than the editor(s). Although the editing-by-committee thing isn't the way to go either. Either way you look at it, DC is a disaster...one hand has no idea what the other is doing...Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

Listened to the entire interview...Makes me a bigger fan of his art/creations than I was before. I collect anything Perez does...I even bought that God awful Superman book that he did for the new 52. I had no idea that he had financial problems of the magnitude that he described in the interview. You can tell that he GETS IT when it comes to comics and comic fans. He still loves the story telling. I haven't joined the HERO initiative but I think I'm going to now after hearing all about it and what it did for George in his interview. One last thing...How the HELL can you blackball an artist/creator like George Perez??!!?? It doesn't make any sense at all. Especially if you are talking money wise from a Comic Book company's perspective. It's just sad when you have a bunch of absolute MORONS running companies like DC and Marvel Comics. George isn't the first and won't be the last that they do it to. I've also heard Norm Breyfogle was blackballed by DC too. Just pathetic. The thing these big 2 need to do is completely clean house of all the guys that are calling the shots and bring in people that KNOW COMICS...and not the bean counters that they have in place right now. Great interview. Hang in there George."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".

George Perez is a class act and one of the nicest people in the industry (I'd include Walt Simonson as well).
I don't know if it's generational thing or a corporate thing or a mash-up of both, but this obsessive need to control all aspects of a Project/License is choking creativity and originality.
It just sounds like the Me-Me-Me Generation where accomplishments happen spontaneously and without any help from anyone else.
It's sad that an industry that professes Heroics, Teamwork, Tolerance, and Respect does the complete opposite to their own.
We shouldn't be surprised...once these entities moved from Publishing to the Entertainment Divisions of their respective Corporations, it was downhill from there. It about Licensing and the next Big Movie/TV Show, not about keeping readership month to month.
Let's face it...We cling on to the Exceptions now and not the rule of the New Industry.

It appears that Perez was blackballed at DC during that burnout period after he messed up on the War of the Gods crossover. I think the Titans Games graphic novel was left incomplete from this timeframe as well, and he also had to be pulled from Infinity Guantlet. One would think that they would have cut him some slack at DC given how arguably DC as a comics producing entity probably owes it's existence to Perez coming over from Marvel, launching the Teen Titans as one of it's sole successful titles and then revamping their entire universe with Crisis, followed by Wonder Woman as a viable title after decades in the gutters. No wonder he was suffering from burnout!
It's rather disheartening to hear that someone of Perez's caliber has financial woes. Even with the Teen Titans animated money, and the royalties of things like Crisis being perpetually in print now in multiple formats. JLA vs Avengers would have had a big cheque attaches as well. But I think we often like to forget about his lows too... he mentions Crimson Tide being a huge money pit.
Perez's Huntress model he mentions.
