Superman TAS Season 3 Talk !

I just finished a Superman Animated Season 3 Watch This Weekend...
I got them all on DVD ...
Season 3 is clearly the Best of the Superman TAS collected imo.
It's really a Sorta Lead up to Justice League, with the All Star Cast of Special Guest Apperances the Toon Has.

    Everyone From Aquaman, to Orion...
The Introduction of Supergirl brought new Life into the Cartoon imo.
The CrossOver's with The Bat Universe, in Knight Time and The Demon Reborn, rekindled the Majic of the 1st Worlds Finest Cartoon , as well as Having Superman Dressed up as Batman Teamed up with Robin in Knight Fall as alot of Fun...., Mre so when He faught Bane.

In Brightest Day, Brought us the 1st Taste of the Green Lantern Universe, done Timmie Style, and Was Great with Sinestro Showing up, and pretty much staying the same well into Justice League Unlimmited as well.

The Great Cast of Rouge Villians Return as well.
Everyone from Metallo, Bizzaro , Myxy, Toyman and Luthor Come Back. And the Hle Apokolips Cast of Baddies For Darkseid really add to the series, and what I love about Superman Most. Kalabak, Stephen Wolf, Granny Goodness, and The Fighting Furries lend some Scene's to make this the Best of the Best for STAS to me.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I enjoyed all three seasons, but I agree when Timm and his crew starting pulling more from the DCU into the series, it got even better. Loved the episode where Superman and Supergirl team up against the alien hive mind that takes over Smallville.

Loved the series' take on Lois. It influenced Smallville's greatly.

Really from Batman and Superman through JLU, Brave and Bold and into the DC animated films, Timm and his crew have done a better job with the characters than DC proper has done during the same time period.

I would have liked Warners to have given him a much bigger role in DC Entertainment, like guiding Didio, Lee and Johns in the right or a better direction.

I watched this off an on during it's run, I was working in a studio by day and worked as a Chef by night......I remember I would watch it with one eye open on saturday mornings because i was sooo exhausted from working.....but i totally enjoyed this series soon as they came on DVD i bought them and watch them constantly......

when Cartoon network started giving them in 2000 around midnight I would just get home from work to see them......the Green lantern episode actually is kinda special too me, I was battling depression in 2000 after my mothers passing and in that episode Kyle is a struggling artist who dreams of being in comics, well if you've seen it's probably one of the Best episodes when you see how he became GL it's pretty heart warming and really made me smile during a bad time in my life........

I think one reason that season 3 shines, is the show was allowed to evolve into the show Timm and co. originally pitched to WB. They proposed a Superman/Justice League series, but Jenette Kahn felt Superman needed to be spotlighted solo.

The battle between Superman and Darkseid in the final episode is just epic. Timm delivered on each of their throwdowns across STAS and JL/JLU. But that moment when Superman holds his hands over Darkseid's omega-beaming eyes, and his freakin' head explodes...DANG!

I actually own the Animated Maquettes for Superman, Bizzaro and The Rayner Green Lantern.
I collected the Maquettes for a bit of the Timmie Universe.
I really liked the Design of the Supergirl Costume for the series , and later the JLU series. It was so sharp, fresh and in your face so to speak, I liked it when they also briefly used it in the books as well. She's 1 of my Favorite designs from the series. She just pops.

Timm did a real bang up job on Black Canary later in JLU ..., that Rivals my thoughts on Supergirl too.

I'm a big Fan of the GL Episode ...
But when I think about it ...., if you pick it apart ( which ofcourse you can find flaws in anything) The whole episode was a bit of a Mess. I mean, they go and combine Hal Jordan's Origin with Rayner's ...., then put Superman in the Middle, with Sinestro, already a Yellow Lantern. They really had no Damn Idea Where to go here , so they merged so many concepts together ...., that it givces the comicbook follower's a real flipp'in headace !

I guess this made Stewart an Easy pick for JL And JLU ...., plus it ofcourse added an African American on the Team ...., if Rebirth with Jordan had happened prior to JL ...., and had the steam it did when it did happen , and ofcourse later ...., Stewart would not have been chosen for JL. imo.

I get where you are coming from on the GL episode, BK. I think they were just picking the strongest stuff to work with without just going with Hal or Kyle's story. I really liked the Mxy episodes, too. The great thing Timm was able to do with Superman was to do more dramatic stuff like the Turpin/Darkseid episodes and the lighter things like Mxy. The second Superman/Batman teamup with Ra's Al Ghul was excellent.

Heck, I really enjoyed their version of Superman's origin, and I liked tying Brianiac to Krypton and it's destruction. The Metallo episodes were good. And it was great to see a traditional Aquaman. The Flash episode left something to be desired to me, but the Dr. Fate episode worked really, well. I thought.

I know Superman doesn't have the pull that Batman does, but I'd like for Timm or Tucker to do another Superman series. I wouldn't mind if it were more like Brave and Bold. The Superman episode was excellent. A real love-letter to the Weisinger era. I missed the Superman-Batman-Wonder Woman. With re-runs of the GL running on DC Nation now. I wouldn't mind them rotating some Brave and Bold in there.

Man Mike ..., This is No Supes Solo Act Bro. As Terry Sorta Mentioned with a B&B Idea he would like to see ...., I personally think this Season 3, is like a Big Superman Brave & The Bold Style Comic, with many Team-ups ...., and a real Strong Coverage of The Superman Villians Rouge Gallery as well.

Kyle was also a quarterback (a nod to Guy Gardner). And during the fight with Sinestro, he gets blasted into Hal Jordan's jet. I can just picture what happens after:

*Hal arrives at work to find Carol glaring at him next to the busted jet* Hal: "I know what you're thinking, but I didn't do it."

Wait.... Where was I again? Oh yeah, Season 3 was totally the best season: tons of cross-overs, Darkseid as a ruthless badass who showed no mercy to anybody, introducing Supergirl, etc. I've gotta pick up the DVDs of this series, it was a lot of great fun!

True, but at the time DC was using Kyle so they had to use whomever the GL was, Sinestro in Yellow was only to separate him from being a Green Lantern the good guys, remember kids are the target audience not us so I understand why he was yellow, and they did throw a nod to Hal with his name on the jet fighter......

A fourth season would've been cool, but the Justice League series was already planned (Superman TAS end in 2000, JL started in 2001).

The Timm/Dini stuff is everything I need from comicbooks.

Seriously, I could lose every other type of media except this style series,
and be just as huge a fan of DCU superheroes as I am now.

There's so much good stuff to say about the entire 3 seasons of STAS that I'm too lazy to detail right now.

I'll say a couple of main points tho...

I stumbled into a sort of flame war here before... I'll take full responsibility for it, as i was probably
being over-sensitive in my posts... I'm not complaining about the tiff, just noting for context of my passion on
the debate subject matter. It concerned why Superman's rogue's gallery has been so unsuccessful over the years
(as far as an impact on audiences).

I argued that Superman's rogue's gallery is the best out there, and that it's just been a run of bad luck
as far as keeping up with Spidey, Bats... and, maybe even Flash. I'd say STAS is proof that there is some
great stuff to mine wSupes' baddies.... stuff that if the Reeve movies woulda adressed more, then maybe
Braniac, Bizarro, Myxie, Parasite or any other number of Supes villains would've had the door opened to
more success over the years during and following that era.

I'll also add that I think the quality of STAS was bolstered by experimenting w/BTAS first.

Don't take this as a knock that says BTAS is a poor show... far from it... I just found the first couplea BTAS seasons
too dry overall for my tastes... by the time STAS kicked in, the tone was more my type of style, and it transferred over
to he JL stuff well too... I'm glad Timm/Dini/Conroy stuck with the Batman character in order to show it off
til the very end of the JLU run.

This BTAS vs. STAS feeling that I have sorta keys in with an excuse why I've been avoiding certain Season 3 references...
it's kinda hard to seperate the STAS seasons for me, compared to other shows.

I will say that the take on Aquaman was great... being a fan of his from childhood, and seeing the straightforward, militaristic
type Aquaman in the FILMATION/SUPERFRIENDS suit (that was based on his earlier comicbook appearances) was great.
The fact that they had to change his costume in JL wasn't such a bummer because of his STAS appearance.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
