Well I started my new project of buying old Marvel Tales back issues for a quick cheap fix of classic Spider-Man instead of the current train-wreck of a book. Picked up Marvel Tales #35-37, which reprints Amazing Spider-Man #50-52, for a total of $8. Not too bad IMO. See Spidey take on Kraven! The Vulture! The Kingpin! With scripts by Stan (The Man) Lee and art by John (Ring-A-Ding Romita)! I've enjoyed these 3 issues more than I have of Spidey's current rag of a mag in a looooong time!

Good haul....I really wanted to see Kraven, Vulture and Mysterio in one of the movies....would have been nice if Bruce Campbells multiple cameos were shown to be him as mysterio or the chameleon controlling Spideys life ...oh well...maybe in the 4th or 5th movie.
I love these "classic" Spidey villains and the older stories...especially "Ditko's" run.It was great that they collected "Kraven's Last Hunt" in hardback recently...that is one of the all time great Spidey stories.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.

I'm working my way through a box full of Spiderman Weekly (with Cap Britain), the British comics from 1970's
I got 140ish issues for £12 delivered.
I love all the old artwork I even like all the old adverts on the backs (Top Trumps, A batglider, Lightsaber etc)...brings back memorys."I've just bought a house. It's got a Buck Rogers Toilet. One yank, all gone!"Comment

Of course Dylan Baker's role as Curt Conners in two movies still hasn't produced a Lizard appearance.Comment

If it was Raimi's intention he never mentioned it, it's just something I wished would happen. Curt Conners was the other waste of a great, great oppertunity.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.

I always like The Chameleon.
If Bruce Campbell were the Chameleon, it would make some interesting metatextual implications given the fact that he's also been Dark Man! Of course I loved the fact that Dark Man met Ash from Evil Dead in a recent comic book crossover.Comment

The nice thing about MARVEL TALES is you can get reprints of AMAZING FANATASY#15 thru AMAZING SPIDERMAN #159 in great shape for around 200 bucksComment

During the early 80s, MT reprinted Amazing from AF #15 through ASM#52 or so. I had all of those, and they gave me the greatest foundation for Spidey lore. Reading those and the Stern/Romita and DeFalco/Frenz current runs at the same time made it the golden age of Spidey for me. I so hated it when they shifted those reprints over to the horribly printed and short-lived "Spider-Man Magazine" Digest.

I've never heard of Marvel Tales before now!
I've tried reading everything but the main Spider-Man titles. I followed the first few issues of Spider-Man 2099. As much as I like Peter David, there's a reason why that title and the whole 2099 line aren't around anymore.
I've picked up the Spider-Man Adventures that were both companions to the Spider-Man cartoon awhile back.
I was thisclose to picking up Marvel Adventures Spider-Man. I grabbed Fantastic Four instead, thinking that none of it would last very long.
I still have my paperback collections.Shameless self-promotion -

Tales to Amaze...
I also loved my Marvel Tales. Cheaper than the originals and easier to get. No comic shops then so I depended on these to fill in the blanks. Greatest idea ever for a Spidey-lovin' kid.
I also had the Pocketbooks paperbacks that gave me my Ditko fix. Small but wonderful and really gave me a love of Ditko's Spider-Man.
Anyone else have them? 3 were printed, I think.
