I love the fact that this stuff still exists, it just sucks that it's priced beyond the reach of anyone but the super rich.
In my business of movie posters, I see it all the time. Great stuff is owned by people who don't really appreciate whatever it is, it's just an investment to them. -
Owning a piece of original Romita art (or "King" Kirby art), I think, would be any comic fans' Holy Grail (it would certainly be mine). I have to agree with you, enyawd, it does suck that the pieces out there are so freakin' expensive that frequently the only people who can afford them are the people who least appreciate them for what they represent...sigpic Oh then, what's this? It was affordable
Not long ago either....but it's really shot up in the last few years. I used to see piles of great original art at conventions for nothing, but it just wasn't in my mind to buy any. I was too busy looking for comic books. Unfortunately it' seems that most people don't pay attention to things until its expensive! It happens with artwork all the time. I'm paying off an early Kirby hulk page now, and to my dismay it will probably be the last one I can afford.Comment

I have a feeling it's gonna swing back around in the next few years. The thing about artwork is that it's all about appreciation. We're getting older, but the styles of art that are being appreciated by the newer generations isn't even in the same ballpark as the masters of our comic book era. Means less $$$ spent on older artwork. I'm seeing stuff up for sale that about 10 years ago you would never think would go up for sale. Comic Art dealers may start feeling the pinch to start selling the stuff they bought all those years back. At lower prices then they initially asked on their pages. You will definitely see prices start to come down over the next few years. Whether they are affordable to some and not to others will be another story. Still keep an eye on Ebay for pages that strike my eye. I still have hope

Romita non spidey stuff isnt too crazy expensive, a fantastic four page he did (of which he did very few) went at heritage auction for around 1500.00, artists like Don Heck are still affordable, its possible to pick up early avengers pages by him in the hundreds. and there are a lot of newer artists in the double digits as low as twenty five dollars.Comment
