Anyone have the comics handy? I'm trying to do some research for a project... what's the deal with the character called Der Fuhrer? Does he have an origin? Is he an actual Nazi who's maybe a time traveler or survived to the Captain Canuck "future" of 1993?



Did they ever reveal the nature of the Aliens that gave Captain Canuck his powers?

From what I remember, "Der Fuhrer" was just an identity which Cap's enemy Mr. Gold used to front his Neo-Nazi group... he wasn't an actual time travelling Nazi or anything.

Did they ever reveal the nature of the Aliens that gave Captain Canuck his powers?

I think the aliens were finally revealed to be a group of intergalactic outlaws... but I can't remember exactly why they wanted to infiltrate Earth with all their sleeper agents and stuff.



That's about all I can recall, as I don't have a full run of the first CC series any more.

Were those the same Aliens that gave Sasquatch his powers? I admit as a kid I thought CC was to comics what Beachcombers was to television. Although I dove head first into Alpha Flight.

Richard Comely was my teacher for a while. I have the first issue from the 70's signed by him but I only have issues 1 and 2 and a copy of his new series.

I can tell you that he's a very nice guy, very talented, but none of us in the class could make sense of the comic either.

My understanding is the series didn't really hit it's stride until the issues in the teens and when George Freeman was involved. I've got them on order, but I don't think IDW even bothered to reprint the first couple if issues.

I had a glimpse at the most recent series, set in present day featuring an RCMP officer as Captain Canuck, looks like it's a bit more grounded, but I can sort of see why the more anything goes original incarnation might have much more energy and a potential Grant Morrison vibe to it.

I thought it was badly thought out and convoluted but I loved Freeman's art. The Alien origin seemed weak to me. Then I remembered that's how The Greatest American Hero & Concrete got their starts and ran pretty well with those origins. If only CC had thought it out better.
