Yeah, a cop-out. He's from Earth 2 which is hardly relevant at all. Earth 2 continuity is like the retirement home for old characters. It just doesn't have much impact.

It's not even the real Earth 2 it's the rebooted one...to boot, if DC had real Balls they would have made one of the Trinity heros come out......but Alan Scott? serious cop out......

A 70 year old character shouldn't be trashed out and history pitched just becomes some executives want to.

I don't really care the reason. Political correctness, liberalism, publicity or whatever.

I feel the worst for Alan Scott's creator, Martin Nodell. I'm sure that this isn't what Mr. Nodell meant for his creation to become.

I was just thinking... If I were an insider with an agenda to bankrupt and destroy DC Comics, I would do exactly what they have been doing. How or why anyone would think these misguided ideas like a sweeping product re-branding with the new 52 to taking high profile heroes and changing their sexual preference is pure madness. It's not even debatable. Whoever is in charge of DC Comics should be fired...NOW.

Thing is: it's the same character by name only. It's not the WW2 era Earth 2 character we grew up with. It's an all new Earth 2, where everything is seemingly modern, or even futuristic.
To me, if they remake a movie to modernize it, it doesn't erase the original. That's how I feel about this.

Alan Scott has always been a stalwart, loyal man of both character and courage. He was always a leader and the very definition of integrity. Now that he's gay...he still is.

This new 52 character, whoever they claim he is, isn't the one we know. This is a completely new creation that might as well have been given a new name. This new direction, while radical and completely driven by desperation and potential profits, might actually be a story worth reading. They are doing this for all the wrong reasons, but we may end up with a book that's good. I'm still waiting for a full shot of his outfit to see how much they ape Ross' designs.

This is indicative of DC as a company. They are stuggling in their search for an identity. The sad part is it's been in front of them the entire time, it just needed a little work. They try to grab headlines, and succeeded, by changing the fifth best known lantern in an alternate reality universe. Way to really stretch your boundries DC.

DC is at the very edge of the high diving board with a crowd looking up and a crowd behind you. Not much choice but to jump at this point. I predict a loud, welt-inducing belly flop.

All of this stuff with the "New 52" aint gonna matter. When they did this re-boot it was the last nail in the coffin for my collecting and DC as a comic book company. If DC doesn't realize after this latest debacle...they'll never get it. Best thing for them to do is to kill the "New 52". It CAN'T be making them that much money. Past the 1st 2 issues of the new 52 sales had to have severely dropped. They've already cancelled a whole bunch of series. It's getting ugly for DC. Time to put a fork in them.

what a crock. the character was married with children and they reinvent him to be gay???***??? what little respect i still had for DC just went down the toilet. I have no problems with people's sexuality, but come on, just create a new green lantern and have him as a prominent character in the E2 universe. stop effin with classic characters just to create controversy
