    Comic Help

A guy answered my CL ad. He said he had silver age and bronze age. Looking at the pictures, I see mostly bronze. He said he has over 350 books, I think and wants around $300-$350 for all of them.

Anything good in these pictures? I know nothing of condition or anything.

    Not sure

I would guess that the best comics are the ones posted. Basically it comes down to about a buck a book, my freind just recently was trying to sell some common books at a comic store up in sf and they were buying them by weight, soo much per pound or something like that.

Seems like there's some good issues, all comics appear to be bagged (and some even boarded). Since the guy want $300 - $350 (if you decide to buy them) it'll be like they're $1 per comic. If I were in your position, I would buy them but I wouldn't want you to regret something you didn't want.

The X-Men books should fetch a decent price, depending on condition, maybe $10-15 each. The Avengers books are maybe $5.00 each in fine cdt...Hulk #177 is an early appearance of Adam Warlock. If you have Daredevil #131 in there (1st Bullseye) or Iron Man #55 (1st Thanos) you would do very well.
The others you show are $1-2 books.

Definitely looks like he has a few keepers and a few sellers in his collection. You can always try to haggle with him over the price because there should always be wiggle room no matter what you're trying sell, otherwise you're not wanting to sell it very badly...!

For a buck a book you should definitely jump on it. I would.

Seems pretty good. Coming down to $1 a piece for bronze and silver is a very good deal. Did they provide a LIST of each comic (or at least most of them)? If not, i think it wouldnt hurt to ask them for one. At the very least they should give you a better idea of whats in the package deal.

Would you be buying to read them - or is this more of a financial investment?

If you have an interest in reading them I don't think you can loose. There's a lot of fun stuff to read in those pics - and you could probably sell them for near the same price later if you decide to.

As a financial investment - I don't see them going up enough to be worth it.

That's just how I would look at it - I'm not saying I can see the future or anything!

Jump on this deal - even a quick glance at them indicates they are easily worth $1500+ (guide) if the pictures issues are representative of the collection. At less than a buck a book you're laughing! And if Hulk 181 or HOS 92 aee in there you'll be laughing yourself silly!

To keep, I'd offer $260, and that is still high IMO...something tells me it was seriously cherry picked...for a collections...it appears pretty fragmented.

There are plenty of long standing, established comic shops on LI that I'm pretty sure they've went to and were offered a lot less then what he's asking.

To flip...you'd have to get it for a lot less then $260 for it to be even worth the effort of cataloging, taking pictures, writing up descriptions, and posting fees.

Conditions in general appear to be OK, not great, so you won't be getting top dollar if you intend to flip.

Just my 2 cents and 35+ years of collecting.

...and the 12 & 15 cent'ers are your Silver Age Books, which appear to be far less then your Bronze age material.

I would definitely buy those books, as there are some great issues in there.

Iron Man # 55 featuring the first appearance of Thanos was 1973, whereas his appearance in a back up story in Logan's Run # 6 was 1977.

Are there any other Teen Titans books in there? The issue that's visible looks like a late Silver Age. It doesn't go for a whole lot, but it's more than a dollar. I agree that it was probably cherry-picked, so I wouldn't bet on getting any major key issues.

Actually...go to any Comic Book Shop and ask them how much they normally pay for books when folks bring them in...

You'll find out that Modern Era Books they either don't take (unless it's a KEY Issue or demand is high) or they pay by weight.

Silver and Bronze Age Books they typically pay 1/4 to 1/3 Guide based on STRICT Grading...1/2 in some rare occasion if the book is a KEY Issue or High Demand.

Golden Age tends to be 1/3 to 1/2 Guide...again...Strictly Graded. This is due to the higher return on investment.

I'd ask some of your more established Local Comic Shops that have been around for a long time...my guess is they say the same as I stated above...otherwise they'd be out of business

Again...this is if you want to flip/resell...if you really want to keep them, then pay Guide (or less) based on their individual grades.

I just got off the phone with him. Picked his brain and bit and asked if he took it to or sold any of it to others and sure enough, it was cherry picked. He sold a few issues to some others, but he was told what he has now is worth a bit of cash. I believe he said he has like Ghost Rider #1 to #20 in there.
