A comic that may actually get me to like the new suit. It looks a lot better here than in the Jim Lee stuff. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Awwwwwww CRAP!!! I see they STILL retconned out his red trunks and gave him that goofy collar!!! Geez--can't Lee leave ANYTHING unsullied....???sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

You're entitled to your opinion, but to openly insult his work like this is really rude and over the line.
We've got a DC Comics pro who is an honest to gosh mego fan, who chooses to hang out with us here in the Mego Community, both online and in person.
He's constantly promoting Mego and the Mego Museum at every opportunity, from his podcast, to his comics, to his new store, in the big Dc Hardcover retrospective book, and more. I've watched the man tirelessly do free sketches for pretty much everyone attending Mego Meet, as well as painting canvases late at night to donate as prizes to the kids custom contest the next day. He's a heck of a nice guy on top of all that, also one of the most positive people you will ever meet, and he possesses an infectious enthusiasm.
Let's not forget the fact that he does really great work that can be enjoyed by not only a generation of young kids discovering comics for the first time, but an audience of all ages.
I mostly posted this because I thought the Folks who have attended Mego Meet might get a kick out of the Easter egg in the Splash, seeing Art And his lovely wife Rose (who organizes the popular Mego racing event).Last edited by samurainoir; May 31, '12, 12:36 AM.Comment

Got to meet Art a few years back at Megacon in O-town. That sketch of Shazam holding a Mego Superman figure he did for me is one of my favorite pieces of art in the house.
Gotta give the man props.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hereby publicly apologize to anyone I offended by voicing my opinion regarding the continued retconning of Superman. It was not meant as an offensive slam towards Art Balthazar or anyone else. I did not realize it was Art's decision to use the new costume; I thought it was an editorial mandate hoist upon him by TPTB at DC....
You wouldn't walk up to Art if he was sitting at his table at Mego Meet and tell him it was crap would you? Not without everyone in the room thinking you were a total creep. Same thing applies here. Although I'm sure he'd be willing to have a polite and jokey conversation about Superman's red underwear over a beer in the Mego Suite if that's your kink.
Plus Superman Family Adventures has nothing to do with retconning either... it's its own thing aimed at kids, and in fact the old outfit still is in Tiny Titans continuity still since we saw him get the new outfit in the final issue of TT.Comment

You miss the point entirely. It's not voicing your opinion that's the issue here (although it is hugely misinformed). It's the fact that you're publicly calling Art's work Crap... embolded no less, with exclamation marks. Hardly a fair critique, and disrespectful when you know the cartoonist is sitting two posts above yours, and it's someone who contributes so much to the community at large.

I respectfully disagree with you that I was calling anyone's artwork crap; I was not. I was just using crap as a more polite expletive, lest it get ****'d by the board's mysterious editors! ::laffs:: Art's art is perfectly wonderful looking to me and that's why I apologized, so he didn't think I was insulting his artwork when I was not...!
When you throw out the word crap within a not-so-clever play on Art's catchphrase, in the context of a thread about Superman Family Adventures, what did you expect the connotation to be?
I get now that it was a misunderstanding, no worries then. Sorry for getting punchy.Last edited by samurainoir; Jun 1, '12, 3:51 PM.Comment

I like pie!
Also I can't wait to pick this up - my nieces have been scouring the comic aisles waiting for it to come out. When the youngest heard the news on TT, she stopped looking at new US comics completely out of bitterness and only read her sister's Fruits Basket stuff. The change-up almost drove her from US comics into the embracing arms of manga forever.Comment
