My daughter who is now thirteen has been picking up the new 52 Batgirl series. I thought for sure DC was really stretching when they literally pulled a woman out of a wheel chair after being shot in the spine and put her back on her feet.
Barbara Gordon had actually became a symbol for handicapped people who read comics when she was Oracle but as I have been reading my daughter's books the art and writing isn't bad.
They have tackled the issue that Barbara was shot and parlayed for some time but for some reason she is able to walk and fight like she's in a championship for an all out cage match (which would be very risky for someone who had suffered a spine injury.)
Not sure if I dig the whole "five years" thing in DC comics. I would have backed it up a little more for some characters.
Right now the books seem to be all right and without giving away and "spoilers" and ticking people off I would suggest to some bat-collectors that this is a good comic to add to your collection.
I guess you can't really have it both ways. Nobody really fit the Batgirl mantle. So if anybody has to be Batgirl I guess why not Barbara Gordon. I just really hope the writer explains a little more in depth later on about this miraculous rebound from the wheelchair since there are a lot of people who are in a wheel chair because of accidents and they just don't get up one day and start kicking arse "five years later".
