    My comic book idea...(criticisms welcome)

I want to put together a comic-book. I would write it and pay somebody else to do the artwork. Self-publish? maybe. Seek a publisher? probably.

The idea is called (tentatively) SPOILER ALERT (no, really.)

My idea (in a nutshell) is: A twenty-something slacker comic-nerd gets transported to the comic-book universe where his encyclopedic knowledge of superhero/villians, comic history and insider info (internet, future solicitations, etc...) becomes almost a superpower. Problem is that there is someone else there from the real world and they know what he knows and have set themselves up as almost a "Dr. Doom" figure. This person realizes that he is a threat and becomes the big-bad of the first arc.

A little bit like "The Wizard of Oz with superheroes". I just don't think this Dorothy wants to go back to Kansas at all.

A superhero/action comic that plays with some genre stuff and real-world comic things. (I think one of his new friends in the comic universe gets "rebooted" and no one notices but him.) Something like that.

I've published some horror, sci-fi and superhero stories in the small press, written a couple of novels (unpublished) and have a small stack of original characters and commissioned artwork of those folks. I've also been selling off my stuff in hopes of financing it all. I CAN'T sell plasma (I checked) for six more months (because of my surgery)

    So, what'dya think?

Sounds like a great idea. It also sounds pretty original. I can't think of anything that is close to it in concept off of the top of my head.

BUT, I would be careful about posting such ideas just out on the internet. You may find your concept published by someone else before you even get to type the first page of your script. I have many comic concepts I have kept close to my chest for years because of this.

I had an idea where "the superheroes go out to fight a cosmic menace, but never return. leaving the c-listers, sidekicks and wannabes to face the villains alone"

DANGER CLUB from Image comics. Oh, well. I would called my SECOND STRING THEORY.

      I trust you guys, though.

Sounds like a really cool idea and I agree with Chris about playing ideas like this close to the vest. It sounds like it would make a great indy book and could be snapped up to make a teevee show out of ala "THE WALKING DEAD." I'd copyright it ASAFP!!! BTW, if you find a penciller and need an inker, I'm available!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

just make sure the rebooted guy gets a victorian style collar, or whatever that design flaw that Jim Lee is giving all his reboot designs.

I was thinking that a sweet, demure silver-age throwback character gets turned into a cyborg-dominatrix.

The only thing I could think of that comes close is that series that was on Adult Swim a couple years back. Fat Guy Stuck In The Internet,I think was it's name.

                      LAST ACTION HERO for starters.

I agree about LAST ACTION HERO. I was thinking that the "superhero world" was one of the few places where knowing secret identities, weaknesses and whatnot would put you in a pretty powerful position. Like that Justice League where Batman figures out how to take the JLA down and somebody steals the idea and uses it. (RA's?) PLEASANTVILLE is another.

Gary... I have to laugh... while I thought of PLEASANTVILLE...
I didn't think of that Batman/JLA story... yet I've been watching the movie
adaptation of it nonstop for the past month

I like your idea... it's all in the execution anyway.

On the flipside... I started to wonder how cool it'd be if a character like yours
entered the DCU or the Trek U or what-have-you.... obviously simillar to the
Batman/JLA story... but it's still interesting.

I've had an idea for years... but it's also something I couldn't do.. and DC
                          would have to do.

DC (or more specifically, WB) owns the rights to the most popular superhero
                          of all-time... SUPERMAN.

I thought using the title (and lyrics somewhat) to the KINKS song
"I WANNA BE LIKE SUPERMAN" or something like "I WISH I WAS SUPERMAN"
would be a cool premise for amovie.

i.e. a comic book geek wakes up one day with Superman's exact powers.

Your protagonist reminded me of my idea right off.
