I think that already is a record for a Kirby panel page. Crap, i remember when most of the FF 55 interiors were being sold off. I could have had the other half splash page where the Thing punches the Surfer out of sight for $12K

That would be a sweet piece of original art to have, but it's waaaaay above my pay grade (if I HAD a pay grade)....!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

You could probably still get a decent Kirby Surfer page from either the graphic novel or SS 18 for a reasonable price. Kirby Large Art format, FF title, Surfer plus Sinnott inks equals big $$$$$$s

That's a very iconic image of the Surfer on his board there, so I'd imagine that has something to do with it also. That image was used just about everywhere at one point or another.

^^^Yeah, 2 out of 3 of those panels are Grade A Surfer poses. The bottom surfing pose is probably the more desirable. If you just wanted to copy that image and enlarge it as a poster for your own use you could scan it out of a Essential FF collection and save $100k.

I'm sure the figure on that page would likely be freakin' astronomical! But it does show us all why Kirby is considered the master...

That's a great page! I would guess close to double, but who knows!?!?

As great as the art looks in the comics, it always amazes me how much better the original work looks. And I just adore seeing Kirby's raw pencils and Curt Swan's, too.

So much is lost from full pencils to the inking and then from the inking to the printed page.

It's great to see one of the "Masters" finally get a page that went for BIG money. I still don't understand why more inferior artists like Miller and McFarlane pages get $$$$ for their original art. It's a BEAUTIFUL page...but like so many here, way beyond my means. I hope it went to a person who can appreciate a comic page...and not some little twit in Hollywood that wouldn't know Kirby from a hole in the wall.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                              The beauty that surrounds them
                              Isn't it a pity".
