Thor's Hammer...stone or metal?

I know it's metal in the movies, but hasn't Thor's Hammer always been drawn to look like stone in the comics?

I thought there was even a prop replica years ago that was made to look like stone.

Anybody know when it changed and why?

I think it depends on the artist because sometimes it looks more stone than metal...

That's what I thought too, but the Marvel Universe guide makes reference to Thor going back to using his original stone hammer after a battle with Magneto.

So it definitely started out as stone...they must have changed it early on.

Ironman recently went to Asgard and those dwarfs made him some kind of armor made from Uru. Stupid, lame story line but it was interesting.
