BEFORE WATCHMEN ART AND STUFF (Yeah, I know)

I respect Alan Moore as much as the next guy and I feel bad about the situation and I'm not sure BEFORE WATCHMEN is such a great idea, but....

Best look yet at Before Watchmen pages, character designs | Robot 6 @ Comic Book Resources Covering Comic Book News and Entertainment

Man, this looks cool. I finally found a Silk Spectre design I'd like to make a custom figure of.

Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

Art is gorgeous, I just can't get super excited about it. The Moore thing aside, I just felt no need to revisit this universe.

It's like revisiting the Earth 3 DC bad guys world in the multi-universe over and over. There was one good story that came out of it. No need to keep going back for more revisits. We get the idea who lives there and what happens.

The Darwyn Cooke artwork looks amazing, probably the one book I will want....I like the Minutemen.

The controversy aside, that's some great looking artwork. Minutemen is a definite buy for me. Cooke's work is just great. Closest thing we're likely to get to a JSA book set in the 40s.

              Hmmmm....

It LOOKS nice, but I'm not excited at all. I don't know if there's really anythying more that needs to be said.... or COULD be said. We'll get some pretty standard heroes fighting era-stereotypical bad guys while dealing superficially with the talking points of the time. I think the only real excitement for me is trying to guess how long until they make this part of the "real" DC universe.

I'm suspecting that we're looking at the prototypes for potentially the larger cash cow... They have been ham strung for years from making comic accurate merch... Now they can churn out statues, figures, t-shirts, posters, etc using artwork and designs from these other top tier artists who are now going to get some of that Watchmen royalty action.

since Moore is entitled to a cut of this avalanche of product, one has to wonder if he will refuse to cash those cheques as well. He's said on record he's now estranged from Dave Gibbons because Gibbons didn't properly thank him for being given his share of the watchmen movie money, and breaking Moore's request to not be a go-between in negotiating with DC. would he still sign over his share of all this to Gibbons?
(Moore has also said that he's similarly estranged from V for vendetta partner David Lloyd for the same reason).

I have nothing but respect for Moore's work, but he really shouldn't expect all of his collaborators to share his rather strange beliefs and work ethics.

Cooke is the only reason I'd even look at these, I'd rather DC just let the classic stand alone and not water it down with sequels.

It's Prequels, not sequels. Only Moore can legally write sequels.

That does look fantastic! I'm still not convinced there's another story worth telling with those characters and without Moore, but visually it's impressive.

I'm not saying you're wrong, because I've never heard that and I don't know where that came from, but legally I wouldn't think it would matter if it's sequels or prequels - as far as I understand DC owns Watchmen.

I thought DC was taking on prequels instead of sequels because it's a lot less complex to do. A) the stories are partially laid out for them already in the backstory of Watchmen, and B) The idea of fleshing out prequels was already Moore's idea way back when the series was originally being published.

whichever, and I doubt that only Moore can write a sequel to it.
