Is it another one of those pad out the beginning of the story kind of deals??You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
Not really....but I think because a lot of readers (especially American readers) have not heard of Dan Dare before, or only have mediocre knowledge at best, there seems the need for some exposition ...I know the old dare stories took a while to get going (only 3 pages per comic) and this stands out in the collected editions, but for todays readers they might find the first couple of issues a bit slow..
shaping up nicely thoughENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.

I'm looking forward to the trade collection. I just picked up Ennis' Battler Britton and enjoyed it immensely even though I didn't know the original source material.
I'm familiar with Dan Dare only from his brief return in 2000AD with art by Dave Gibbons, and Grant Morrison's Dare revival in the early nineites.

Great page from A B C warriors there...The 2000ad Dare stuff was great especially the early ones...very Star Trek rather than "Dare like". Dave Gibbons done some of his best work in 2000 ad and Watchmen.
Battler Britton was another WW2 story after he'd written Enemy Ace:war in heaven and War Stories. I believe these came from a love of reading "commando" and "battle picture library" (small A5 self-contained war comics, 4 different issues a month) when he was younger and trying to recreate that type of work.Check them out if you liked Battler...along with Rifle Brigade for a funnier take on war.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.

Yesturday's tomorrows is a collection of Rian Hughe's work including "Dare", a bleak re-imagining of Dare (with Grant Morrison) which first saw light in "Revolver" and is set in the 80's.ENGLISH AND DAMN PROUD OF ITBritish by birth....English by the grace of God.
