    AVENGERS Reviews are coming in....!

More and more reviews are starting to show up for THE AVENGERS and for the most part, they are overwhelmingly good.

Like this one from The Hollywood Reporter...

Director Joss Whedon pulls off a stunning feat in bringing balance to this superhuman circus, engineered to charm the geek core and nonfans alike.

Here's a link to the review...

One review I read said it was the most fun the reviewer had ever had watching a movie. That's incentive enough for me.

"There is no over-hyping this movie! If you walk in thinking that this is the best movie ever, you're under-hyping it!"
I'd say this review, plus the 30+ others I've attached here, makes me even more excited! It seems that now, since it's 10 days away, the wait is even harder!

Plus, IMDB has this at 9.5 and Rotten Tomatoes at 96% (the highest score for a comic-book movie since Iron Man).

I'm not sure that means a lot. If the message boards there are representative of the users, they are largely simpletons. Or tweens.

I do have my fingers crossed though. Seriously, how can they mess this up? It's got to be great, right?

Is it just me or does Chris Hemsworth look a bit skinny in the premiere photo?

He may have lost some weight for another role, ya never know. Suffice it to say, I'm sure he'll be back up to Thor-weight (and build) for THOR II...

Variety's critic tried not to like it, but couldn't.

love how all the negative reviews of GL were boo-ed by the fan boys and not believed but these positive reviews get eaten up. Just saying, ya know.

The difference is that both fans and critics are both positive. It's rare when they both agree, so The Avengers must be something.

Let's see, every single review from fans to critics have given this movie nothing but praise and kudos/props to Whedon.....I'm sure it's gonna be bad.

I said "largely simpletons," suggesting the majority of posters were less than bright. If I unduly offended your sensibilities, I apologize. There are good people there. I've read thoughtful, intelligent posts at times, but they're often buried under mountains of rubbish. I post there as well, but the average IMDb poster seems to be either blind to honest criticism of loved films (I'll admit everything I like isn't first-rate) and ready to vent their spleen on anyone not in complete agreement with the work's genius or they seem to be intentionally looking to start a fight (i.e., "The Lord of the Rings is racist because none of the principal characters are black."). If you do, however, post like those people...well, be a chap and stop telling people to kill themselves for not thinking Mallrats is the best film committed to celluloid.

I'm not certain, but I think you might be reading some sarcasm on my part that's not there. I am saying exactly what I meant--it pretty much has to be good. Of course, I haven't seen it yet, so this is a guess; however, I'm on your side on this. I want it to be good--I'm just not going to say it's good until I have seen it.

I supose I should've used a smile as to not sound so harsh. I was more or less joking with that comment. I don't post like that and I agree with you, some IMDB reviews are just like that and I can't stand them either.

Some sarcasm, but all in good fun! And I'm just going by reviews from both fans and critics, the trailers, previews, clips, TV Spots, the soundtrack and so on. I'm not saying it's good either (since I havn't seen it either, but I will write a review after I've seen it) but with all of the positive vibe, how can it not be good? That's all I'm saying.

I could make an argument that I'd sincerely stand behind
the logic... even after being proven wrong (if that happens)...
... and that IS: It's much easier to not like a movie than love it...
(especially a costumed hero movie, IMHO)
if these people are really saying they love it... and its a good cross section...
well, I can't help but assume there's more chance they are right
about it's overall goodness than if the same bunch were saying it was a poor film.

Definitely do that, okay? I'd love to see how more mature fanboys like ourselves view it. I'm probably going to wait a week or two for a matinee, so I'm going to rely on you guys here at MM to inform me quite a bit. But, really, who am I kidding? I'd go see it if everyone and their brother panned it.

P.S.: I'm sorry I misread your post too, OM. I thought I'd offended you and it wasn't my attention. Although I might sound like a jerk at times, I'm harmless--I actually think very highly of pretty much everyone here and need to put more thought into my posts before hitting Submit Reply.

I plan on seeing it in the theatre (whether I actually DO or not is another issue).

If you're a superhero fan and don't plan on seeing this breakthrough
movie which stars more iconic superheroes than a bunch of past releases combined... then I don't get the logic... even IF the reviews are bad.
