Joss Whedon talks Avengers DVD/Blu-Ray extras

Wow, 30 minutes of deleted scenes. When you have that many for that long, it seems to make more sense to release: The Avengers: Directors Cut! At least, that's what I would do.

Cool... the Blu Ray is sure going to be packed with stuff!

Yahoo is also running a transcript of the story...

The film clocks in at over two hours, but there was much more still to see...

‘Avengers Assemble’ director Joss Whedon has revealed that he cut one of the best scenes from the forthcoming movie.

The director told the New York Times that the scene was cut because it was ‘killing the rhythm’ of the film.

In an interview, he revealed: “One of the best scenes that I wrote was the beautiful and poignant scene between Steve and Peggy [Carter] that takes place in the present. And I was the one who was like, Guys, we need to lose this.”

In last year's World War 2-set 'Captain America: The First Avenger' Steve Rogers became the titular hero and fell in love with Agent Peggy Carter.

The film ended with Rogers being woken up having been frozen for sixty years, meaning while he hasn't aged at all, Peggy would be in her eighties.

The footage is part of 40 minutes’ worth of material that hasn’t made it into the final cut of ‘Avengers Assemble’.

Whedon told Collider.com that the film was originally scripted and shot to a length of almost three hours, before being cut down to two hours and 20 minutes ahead of release later this month.

Explaining his decision to cut a scene set in Captain America’s apartment, he said:

"I had quite a little sequence built of Cap not relating to the world and feeling his isolation and as we got closer and closer, we realized, when he’s punching that bag, he’s pretty much telling us everything we need to know."

The director confirmed that most of the edited footage would be included on the DVD release later this year.
    PUNY HUMANS!

Steve and Peggy in the present day!! Hell yeah! I hoped there would be an interaction between them! Too bad he cut it. I have mixed feelings on that.

Agreed...I would like that to have been left in the movie. Oh well, I hope it's one of the extras.

Yeah, he said it'll be a deleted scene....along with 40 minutes worth of others; which is why I said it should be released as a directors cut. It would make more sense that way, to me anyway.

Oh don't worry, a director's cut will come out six months after this to milk the consumer out of more money. BTW, I am totally cutting myself off from any further Avengers threads, pics, clips and posts. I have seen enough already and will try to go into the theater as uninformed as possible.

What is fascinating is the admission that they set out to shoot (and budgeted) a three hour movie... Knowing the cut material for the theatrical would end up as incentive content for the DVD/bluray market. Although it all seems to end up on YouTube anyways.

Glad we will get to see the Peggy scene... Surprised they didn't save that for Captain America sequel.

Just heard about this: the 3-hour cut is supposed to be released on the big-screen sometime in August. If it's true, then I can't wait!

I hope they touch on the Steve/Peggy reunion in Cap II.

I wonder if the Avengers DVD will touch on why Cap's cowl/mask/helmet thing looked so bad.
                  Hey! Check out the pictures.

I wished they hadn't advanced the story so much, I was kinda hoping that Cap had stayed in the 40's.....especially since Jim Hammond The Human Torch was shown, I would have loved for them to introduce The Invaders/All Winners Squad in his movies....

The original movie idea was to remake either All-Winners or the Invaders as a League of Captain America's, where every Allied nation would have a representative. Swear. Feige said so himself. Only confirmation was Captain Britain. Word was it was dropped because of budget, but IMO, it was written when Marvel totally freaked about trying to sell Cap internationally, and they didn't consider what the stateside reaction would be to Captain UN.

It seemed to be a riff on the 90's Spidey episode, where they intro Cap and his old squad to fight Skull.

It would have been a cool way to introduce Namor and the others to fight all of Caps enemies from that time.......sorry the Geek in me is dying to see the Invaders on screen, when I saw The Human Torch on screen in the movie I had a serious geek out moment and yelled out The HUMAN TORCH!!!! of course all the geeks that knew screamed too.....

I think the montage where they are taking out the Hydra bases leaves plenty of room to revisit WWII if they want to. I would like to see an
                          Invaders movie too.

So they're releasing the theatrical version plus a bunch of deleted scenes now.
A longer cut in theatres later on.
And then possible an Ultimate Edition with both...by December, maybe?

Guess I'll have to be patient before buying anything.

Oh that, well that's because the internet decided that based on a few admittedly bad, undramatic shots the studio leaked.

Seriously, it looked fine in the movie. I never noticed it. I don't get why anyone is still going on about this.
