^Nice analysis. I hadn't quite thought of it that way, but you may be on to something there.

When Spider-Man went from red & blue to black in 1984, I remember people including myself, being shocked but yet immediately embracing the change. It was SO different, but it didn't matter. Spider-Man was still Peter Parker, and he looked pretty darn cool in black.
I'm glad you pointed this out... One f the things I think that has me and maybe others sideways, is that there is no purpose to the DC costume changes. Someone tell me just one reason why a costume that was perfectly fine for the better part of a century suddenly needs a make over> Sure there was Superman red and blue but those had a reason and a purpose for existing. Trunkless Supes? I can't see where it's needed. And considering everyone on the planet is familiar with the traditional look, the slightest change is dramatic. So it's not just that the trunks are gone, its a balance thing.

Also in the Smallville book it is pointed out that his costume has changed. That means to me there has to be a reason behind Clark's decision to take off his shorts. Speaking of which in the Smallville world Lois and Clark are still a happily married couple. With that said would it be okay for DC to require that the two be split up to keep up with current continuity even though they are not even remotely related? IMO it would be instant death for the book.

My favorite Superman costume was the Black and Silver one he wore when he returned from the dead. I can live without the mullet but it was the 90's...

I've been drawing my own comic for some time now. Lately I've focused more on writing as it doesn't come as easily to me. I like to see peoples opinions on these things from time to time to avoid mistakes with my own characters. One thing I am doing differently is that I figure realistically they wouldn't wear the exact same thing all the time. My main character Pinion has her iconic (to me) costume and then several variants. It could be same suit with different colours or just something different completely. What I do try to do is keep something the same everytime to avoid confusing people. So in this case, she always wears yellow Docs and gloves. Her belt always has a stylized letter P on it.

One thing coming up that I'm really looking forward to is the big Court of Owls story in the Bat titles. They haven't really done a "good" crossover in years. At least not one I've been satisfied with. This feels like a genuine threat for Batman and makes me think of the old days when events were exciting. Like the year one stuff or Death in the Family etc. I'm really excited about it.

To bring it back to Smallville, I'm glad he's still married to Lois. She was the best part of that show for me. Talk about getting a character right. She's gorgeous too so that didn't hurt.

See, I like this idea. It's a more organic way to introduce a costume change or a different look.

As a child, it always bugged me that cartoon characters like the kids on Scoobey Doo, always wore the same clothes. It didn't make sense to me.

If DC had of introduced the trunkless Superman suit/armor/uniform as an option — like Iron Man's various armors — rather than an improvement, I wouldn't have had as much of an issue with it. Why can't he wear both. But I still prefer trunks on the Batman costume although he's had then on and off since the 89 Batman movie.
