    Favourite Horror Comics?

I had a fondness for Eerie, Creepy and Vampirella as a kid. Later on I discovered those wonderful EC reprints of Tales from the Crypt, Haunt of Fear etc.

    Corben's Poe adaptations are brilliant.

I never got into the Warren mags unfortunately...my early horror consisted of DC books like House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Swamp Thing, Unexpected and Ghosts and Marvel stuff like Tombof Dracula and Werewolf By Night. It wasn't until later that I discovered the EC stuff, but I remember 1st reading about them in the '78 Overstreet Price Guide, including a detailed description of the infamous baseball game story. The Charlton mags were good for some stuff on occasion as well, like Ghostly Tales and Dr. Graves. Today I consider the EC titles as the best ever in the genre and just everything else against that barometer.

ALL of the old EC titles, Tales from the Crypt, The Haunt of Fear, etc. Nothing beats those! I mean those are total classics!
I really love "The Walking Dead", Kirkman does that one to a science,
Oh and "Zombies FEAST" was really darned good too!

Vampirella is my favorite. I may try to make a custom of her some day. A few years ago I repainted a She Hulk figure as Vampirella and am digging through my boxes of stuff trying to find her again! Bought most of the Harris Vampirella series in the 90's but started reading her way back when! (Until my Mom caught me and threw them out!)

Glad to see another Vampirella fan here!

The marvel horrors (werewolf, Drac, Franky and Zombie) as well as Vampirella, The House of Hammer (great artwork from Brian Lewis), Fiends of the Eastern Front (strip in 2000ad), anything with Bernie Wrightson or Richard Corben doing the art duties. From today's picks definately Walking dead, Goon and the missed Preacher.

All the EC stuff, and DC's Houses books. Today, Hellboy, BPRD, and the Goon.

I wish DC would revive House of Mystery with Cain as host once again...a double-sized bi-monthly would be cool.

                    Hmmmm....

The original Vampirella was pretty good; but it seemed to go through up and down periods. Creepy wasn't bad. (The "Crime Crusher" is one of my all time favourite stories.) I liked Twisted Tales too. Reiko the Zombie Shop is pretty good; and if you consider it horror, so was DeathNote.

Wrightson was the master! Saw one of his rare compilation books from the seventies at Green Apple books in San Francisco there this week, but it was too much for my poor wallet to handle. Maybe someday I'll find it for a good price. It took me the longest time to find a good price for Corben's Odd Comic World that was always advertised in the back of the Warren mags. I was really happy when Heavy Metal managed to reprint so much of Corben's Creepy/Eerie material a few years back in book form.

For me, Vampirella was all about Jose Gonzales' lush hauntingly beautiful artwork.

I think I always really wanted to like Rook more than I actually did at that time. I mean what's not to like about a time travelling Cowboy?

1984/1994 was great for Corben's Mutantworld and Alex Nino art, although I always thought of it as the backwoods black and white newsprint cousin of Heavy Metal and Epic Illustrated. Wasn't really a big fan of writer/editor Bill Dubay (or whatever other dozen handles he wrote under).

I only first encountered House of Mystery as a young lad when Elvira was hosting it!

How could I resist a cover by Dave Stevens?

There is Alan Moore's classic Swamp Thing run...

But I think Mark Millar and Phil Hester's run is horribly under-rated (launched with the help of Grant Morrison).
