DC has sunk to a new low...

Just started watching the new episode (Insecurity) of Young Justice this morning, and the opening sequence left me with my jaw hanging open.

Green Arrow and Artemis thwart a cat burglar who is...SPIDER-MAN.

The guy sticks to walls, has web shooters, swings, snappy banter, the spider emblem on his forehead...and the character is called...are you ready? The WEB SLINGER.

I can't believe they did that.

I thought it was a fun homage. Maybe a bit obvious. Marvel has used Superman (Gladiator, Sentry) and Justice League (Squadron Supreme) parodies as antagonists and even heroes since the 60s and DC has done likewise. Cyborg Superman (Hank Henshaw) started off as a one off of Reed Richards. Nothing to be offended about. I would think Marvel, Disney and Sony would be happy that Warners, the Cartoon Network and DC gave Spidey a free plug on their show.

They did a Spider-man parody on Venture Brothers too. Voiced by Nathan Fillion. You don't want to know where his web shooter was...

It didn't really bother me either, I just couldn't believe they did it.

I hadn't really thought of any of those other back and forth examples. Some powers are generic enough, flight, super-speed, stretching, etc. that there are bound to be similarities but Spider-Man is pretty specific.

I'm trying to figure out why they did their Doctor Who nod the way they did.

I think it was supposed to be the Black Spider, but they never called him by name. The voices sounded like Josh Keaton, who voiced Spidey on "The Spectacular Spider-Man".

It was rather blatant, but kind of fun.

I rather liked it. It's a better version of the character than the new Spidey toon's really.

I'm not even a comic book enthusiast, but I AM a JL/JLU/Timm enthusiast
and even "I" know that the JL episode featuring Grundy, Fate, Aquaman,
and Hawkgirl is a Marvel Universe DEFENDERS homage with
Hulk (Grundy), Strange (Fate), Namor (Aquaman) and Nighthawk (Hawkgirl).

I'm waiting any day for these two companies to join the industry standard and merge in order to survive.

Man, I hope not. I would definitely not want the two universes mixed. Can you imagine the absolute cluster you-know-what that would be?

                            I don't really see how.

The characters from both universes are essentially the same,
as numerous crossovers have already proven.

Additionally, the two companies share the same writers/artists/etc.
                            anyway.

It's been decades where the 2 companies have been seperate...
maybe a merging of the two would be the shot in the arm that
the costumed hero industry could really use to take it further,
as just about everything that could've been done w/each
                            franchise has been done already.

The funny thing is, Dwayne McDuffie, who wrote that episode, initially couldn't figure out why he was handed that particular lineup to write in that episode, until one of the other producers (Timm or Burnett?) explained to him it was the Defenders.

Amazo was the Silver Surfer of course.
