I loved Secret Origins. Those were such a treat to read when I was kid. Getting all of those stories in one book was unique back then. Top of my list as well.
I still have the one I bought at a flea market in the early 80s. I remember seeing the ads for it in the comics and wanting so bad. I about freaked out when I saw it at the flea market.
It not only gives the silver-age origin but also the golden-age origin.
I have a beat up copy I've had since I was a kid. All that history for a whopping $6.95.
I poured through it like I was being given the secrets of the universe. Couldn't put it down.
It was my first introduction to a lot of the JSA besides the JLA team ups of the day. I knew who Hawkman, Atom and Plastic Man were but not their beginnings. Hawkman is a police man!, white dwarf star!, Plastic Man was a criminal! Who knew?
Loved the covers on those digests. I had most of them back in the day, but they went in a garage sale when I was a teen.
Love the Superman one with the painted cover of him zooming up into the air over Metropolis.
I had a bunch of Dennis the Menace, Family Circle and Garfield paperpacks that went in that Garage sale as well as five or six issues of the Amazing World of DC Comics.
Really wish DC would issue a Showcase edition of the Amazing World of DC Comics.
