    The Avengers - SPOILERS...?

    The mysterious transformer revealed?
The leviathan turns and alien gunfire hits the café causing people to flee as the damaged Quinjet (Avengers plane) crash lands.
At least we now know the name of that giant-*** dragon thing (also revealed to be the troop transport, bringing The Redacted to earth).

    The Avengers plot revealed?
First off to bat, we will be seeing the return of Hugo Weaving reprising his role as Red Skull. Apparently, Loki finds him during his "travels" and partners up with this veteran evil do-er.

Next up, do you remember the alien spacecraft blowing everything up from the trailer? Well, those are none other than the Skrulls. Oh wait, we can't say Skrulls because Sony still has the rights to that name. So Marvel had to change their appearance and the name to avoid getting sued. Yes, that's right. Due to big business, Marvel can't use their own creation in their own movie. So now they are called The Redacted.

Marvel fans will also recognize the name Thanos showing up, and he plays a huge role. In fact, he gets tricked by Loki in an unfair trade getting the infinity gauntlet as Loki takes the now named Redacted. Oh yeah, he also hands over the gigantic space Serpent, The Leviathan.

Once the Redacted realize that Loki has betrayed their master by making him think that the infinity gauntlet is more powerful than originally stated, they turn on Loki. Forcing him to join sides with the Avengers.
Sounds like a lot to happen. Some I like, some I have mixed feelings on. Thanos sounds cool, and Loki tricking him to take control of his army sounds just like something Loki would do, but, as I said, I have mixed feelings on the other stuff.

The Avengers running time and midnight showing
The Avengers used to be 3 hours, but Joss Wheadon has managed to cut it down to 2 hours 15 minutes. His reasoning: More isn't more. He also said that the longer version won't be availible on Blu-Ray. Also, select AMC Theaters will host a Marvel Movie-thon, showing all 5 Marvel movies leading up to and culminating in a midnight showing of The Avengers.
I have mixed feelings on both of these statements (the Marvel movie-thon sounds kick-***!). Normally cutting scenes means plot-holes, awkward dialouge and scenes that don't make sense. Releasing extended/director cuts puts the movie the way it was originally susposed to be seen, fixing those problems adressed earlier. Not releasing a longer version, especially since he revealed that one does exost, might cause problems if (god forbid) the theatrical version doesn't do good.

    Edit: The Avengers Rumors Squashed

Kevin Feige, producer of The Avengers, started eliminating some rumors in his interview in Empire magazine. First up, he does clear up who the Avengers will, or will not, be facing off against...well, kind of. He starts off with his response simply, "Who says they are aliens?" Feige, has said before that the Skrulls are not in this movie. They aren't aiming to set up the Kree Skrull war or anything like that. In fact, He goes on to say that the enemies are in fact from the comics, but by no means impactful to the main story.
He also clears up that Red Skull will NOT be in The Avengers. No Red Skull in this movie, but Feige didn't say anything about no Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos, or the water dragon, the Leviathan.
Well, there goes at least half of this thread. I'm glad that Loki doesn't team up with Skull....at least in the first movie. Maybe have Skull come back in a sequel with him leading HYDRA again, threatening world domination, like all good villains do.

Wow. I love the premise. Emeraldknight and myself were discussing our concerns about whether the Avengers were going to have a sufficient enough "heavy" to justify all of them coming together. This is sounding more like it.

PLEASE do not post things like that IN THE THREAD TITLE. Some of us like to leave surprises for the theater. I understand in this information age it's increasingly difficult to not have things spoiled beforehand, but a spoiler alert is common courtesy.

I won't even read the rest of this because I don't want to know, but now I've had a major revelation spoiled before hand.

Sorry, I just presented it the way it was presented to me. And besides, if you had continued reading I corrected myself and posting a quote from Kevin Feige who stated that Red Skull isn't in The Avengers, and that it was just speculation (since it appears that he did get transported to Thor's world at the end of Cap). I even make a joke saying there goes half of this thread! So to summarize, sorry but, in my defense, nothing did get spoiled (just a lot of speculation).

Well, I'm glad it wasn't spoiled BUT when you posted this, you thought it too be true, so in fact it was a spoiler. I have no problem with you posting spoilers, but please, title it something like "Avengers villains SPOILER ALERT" or something like that.

I had the Ra's Al Ghul surprise from Batman Begins ruined for me by an errant thread like this. I consider it a sore subject.

And you didn't ask me my opinion, the #1 Avengers fan? The person who got introduced to the Avengers through the 2010 animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and who knows a little bit about the comics. How dare you!

Sorry about this then. I just wanted people to be so shocked they HAD to click on the link. I take everything with a grain of salt though, so I see it as "Loki might team up with the Red Skull, or this is bull-**** made up by a fan who also believes that Skull was transported to Thor's universe." But next time, I'll put 'Spoiler' just in case.

I have learned my lesson! Okay... Here's one for you. I'm a big fan of the Avengers as well. But to me it is never quite the Avengers until we get the Vision and Scarlet Witch added to the team. From my perspective, they make the Avengers. So my hope is the Vision will get his introduction as a credits teaser. Perhaps Ultron 5 is seen working on an inanimate figure. You see a shadowy close up of the figure's face. Suddenly two small bursts of light emit from the darkened eye sockets. What do you think? Remember, you did see the Original Human Torch advertised at the World's Fair in Captain America. Why have him there at all except as a reference for what is to come? What say you?

That is exactly what I was thinking. (But I was thinking along the lines of Ultron rather than Vision, but Vision first would be cool too.... or maybe Ultron could make Vision, like in the comics, or would that be too unbelievible in the "more grounded" live-action films?) I mean, it's cool that they included it, but to bring it around full circle would be incredible.... and maybe they could even say that Howard created the Torch Android too, as a prototype for A.I. or something (and then have Tony, using the Torch as a base, create Vision (or Ultron)). All though I'm debating whether or not that would be too much of a stretch and have people go "Really? He’s responsible for thinking of the technology for flight, in 1941 (which, as us fans know will be applied to the S.H.I.E.L.D. flying cars, the Hellicarrier), and Captain America’s shield. What the hell, let’s just make him responsible for this too!?” I would actually want that to happen, but for the average movie go-er, that might seem like too much of a coincidence.

Ultron was created by Henry Pym, so hopefully that is a storyline all for itself without involving Stark. And Dr. Horton created the original Human Torch. Hopefully they can tie that together without having to make Stark responsible for everything in the Marvel Universe. Even I am growing a little leery of Stark getting the credit for every relevant moment in the world of heroes. He does need to take a back seat to someone eventually.

I have never heard of Dr. Horton before (see? I said I had a little comic-book knowledge. ) so forgive me for that mistake. But I do know that Pym creates Ultron () but I was think along the lines of EMH. Pym takes the prototype to Stark Industries, who weaponizes it and tries to sell Ultron the military. So while it wouldn't be Stark who creates it, but who makes Ultron a weapon where-as Pym wanted something to help the Avengers, creating tension between the two.
