The Batman/Captain America Team-up is drawn very well tho kind of simplistic in writing. A nice period adventure but he didn't have to reduce the story to being like an actual story that would have been published back then.

Waid's run on "Brave and the Bold" was excellent, but from what I recall at the time it was already going against the current state of the DCU...too much of a Silver Age/old school feel to it...

DC really didn't do much to promote it. With Waid writing, Perez on pencils and a great line-up of team-ups it should have been one of their better selling titles but wasn't...

Anthony, I totally agree on the quality of Waid and Perez's B&B. Heck, JMS' work on B&B was so much better than his Superman and Wonder Woman work.

sometimes quality, just doesn't translate to sales.

Yes the JMS issues were pretty good also. He also was hamstrung by editorial policies on B&B....Remember they were originally going to use it as a launching pad for the newly acquired Red Circle heroes?

The issues between Waid and JMS' runs we're crappy IMO...some were used to force Milestone heroes than nobody wanted and others were just bad on their own...

Not sure about an actual Waid/Byrne spat, but I have a funny story relating to it.

Around 1998 or so, both Waid and Byrne were at Mid-Ohio Con in Columbus. I took some comics for both to sign, and I saw Byrne first. I must say he was very cordial and friendly. I then got in line for Mark Waid, who was in a different room. Behind me this lady was rather loudly bemoaning something while more and more people seemed to gather. It seems she had taken a comic drawn by Byrne to him for him to sign. Byrne refused to do so, saying he didn't work on that book. He very clearly did, he even drew the cover! But he would not sign it.

At the front of his line, Mark Waid stands up, looks over the audience and asks "Does someone have a crazy John Byrne story?"

So I guess there's not a lot of love there?
