    Superman vs. Elite

Now, this is Superman. The Superman vs. Elite animated movie doesn't come out on DVD until July, but it is making its premiere at Wonder Con in Anaheim this weekend. If anyone goes, please write us a review

    http://ifanboy.com/articles/trailer-...-vs-the-elite/

It's based on a really good Joe Kelly story from I believe Action Comics 575, where Superman takes on a group of characters who are kind of like The Authority.

It had to be in production before the no-trunks rule was put in place at DC. I hope they at least keep trunks on Superman in their upcoming Dark Knight Returns adaption.

This looks really great. The art is stunning. I've never read the story to my knowledge but I'd like to.

Is the no trunks thing an actual rule? Or is it just a guideline for newer projects? I'm a big fan of the red trunks. It breaks up the colour.

I was being facetious about "the no-trunks rule," to a degree, but I've got to believe at some point DC will want Superman looking like the character in the book with toys, statues, cartoons and movies as a branding issue. Or maybe it's having the comics and etc. looking more like the Superman in the films?

This looks good. I appreciate the less-anime look of this one. I'm getting a bit tired of everything looking like "Young Justice". I like it when they mix it up a bit.

George Newburn back as Superman is a good thing too.

I liked the Authority going all the way back to Ellis's Stormwatch issues, but that Superman story really lays out while Superman rules. I can't wait to see this!

I was very happy to see this movie stray from the anime style of the past JLA movies. It's a breath of fresh air.
              Hey! Check out the pictures.

The trunks thing doesn't seem to be sticking outside the comic and the movie. And I guess one or two action figures. Most newer stuff seems to be the classic style.

Is that Superman? I can't recognize him without the armor, red belt, and high collar.
                    It's all good!

You may be right, but I'm pretty sure the animated movie was in production prior to the DCnU ever being thought about.

Especially for this story. The whole point is that he is classic and old school against the "new hipper" breed of heroes (kinda the point in Kingdom Come, now that I think about it.)

I find it amusing that DC is now making an animated movie of this, when they have had their heroes embrace many of the trappings of The Elite and The Authority.

true, as the nudcu was probably concieved about a day before they went public with it, judging by how much thought was put into it.

It was a really good one-shot issue, with perhaps a problematic ending given the questionable morality of the solution Superman chose. To more old-school fans, Superman is better than that (although this is the Post Crisis Superman that executed alt universe Phantom Zone criminals during Byrne's initial run)

Going back to the well with the Elite was probably not the best creative decision given that the initial issue was received so well.
