    THE AVENGERS Score....

Just got finished watching the snippet of an interview with Joss Whedon over on SuperheroHype and he mentioned that Alan Silvestri is the one scoring THE AVENGERS. What think you folks of that? I'm still a little on the fence on it. I really like some of Silvestri's scores, but there are others that I dislike.

I realize, of course, that movie music is best consumed in context with the film, but there are some scores that stand out alone (Superman and Batman come to mind) where you can "see" the movie in your head just by listening to the music and that's what I'm really hoping for with THE AVENGERS. I own several CDs of Silvestri's stuff, but none of his have ever conjured forth the images in my head the way that Willams' SUPERMAN score or Elfman's BATMAN score do, so here's hoping.

I have a short list of composers I would have liked to have seen score THE AVENGERS (I think Jerry Goldsmith would've knocked it out of the freakin' ballpark, but being dead kinda put him out of the running), but Silvestri was not one of them, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Who do you all think could have done a good AVENGERS score?
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Silvestri scored Cap's film. It has the best original super hero score in recent memory. I think he'll do fine with Avengers.

I believe that Sikvestri scored The First Avenger too. I loved that score so much I actually bought the soundtrack. I think he'll do a great job with The Avengers! And seeing how The Avengers will be told by Cap's POV it makes sense.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I heard Cap's soundtrack. Everything about it was perfect, so I have no worries about The Avengers.

What Silvestri stated about scoring The Avengers:

"This is actually a very unique experience [for me]. I’ve worked on films where there have been a number of stars and certainly worked on films where there have been characters of equal weight in terms of their level of importance and profile in the film, but this one is somewhat extreme in that regard because each of these characters has their own world and it’s a very different situation. It’s very challenging to look for a way to give everyone the weight and consideration they need, but at the same time the film is really about the coming together of these characters, which implies that there is this entity called the Avengers which really has to be representative of all of them together."

Silvestri is a good choice. I LOVED his work on Cap's movie and he did a memorable score for Judge Dredd too. And lets not forget the wonderful music he did for Polar Express. He'll do an awesome job here.

Cap's score is my favorite of his right now, he did such a spectacular job on it! I have the soundtrack and listen to it daily!
