    Bob Kane's original Batman design

Thankfully Bob got some sense in his head. This was the original design of "Batman" by Bob Kane before he changed it. I couldn't imagine what a flop this would have been if it went through.
    OK Austin, start customizing.

He looked like he was trying to make a 'mysterious' Flash Gordon.

That reminds me of the story of Jack Kirby's original and overly heroic version of Spider-Man's costume which Stan Lee then handed to Steve Ditko. They should do a what if Kirby's Spider-Man met Bob Kane's original Bat Man

That sketch is a recreation by Arlen Schumer, and if it looks like Flash Gordon that's because Kane swiped the pose from a Flash Gordon story drawn by Alex Raymond....

How about we give Bill Finger some credit here? HE is the reason we got a Batman that looks cool instead of Red-Man there.

Sadly, Finger got the Finger from Kane for most of his run on Batman.....

Yes, at this point, I don't know what you can really credit Kane for on Batman, OTHER than the actual name. Finger filled in his concepts so much, it's hard to determine what Kane brought to the table.

Anyone remember the scene in the 1st batman movie when Kim was talking with the other actor who picked up the drawing? That was Kane sitting wasnt it? Remember the line that actor said about him? (dont want to repeat it here lol)

I just checked Wikipedia, Kane was suppose to play that cameo roll, so you're kinda right - but he didn't make it and another actor filled-in.

What was the line? I haven't seen that movie since I saw it in the theatre.

That wasn't Kane in the film for some reason, even though it looked like his style and was "signed" by him. He was a "consultant" on the film, and did some concept work, where he (or more than likely, another ghost) ripped off Todd McFarlane Batman images.

Kane was on a local New York show in the 60s during Batmania, where he "drew" Batman on camera for the kiddies. Turns out he was tracing faint blueline work by Joe Giella.

I think we often forget that Siegel, Shuster and even Kane, were teenagers when they created Superman and Batman. Kane had some luck that the other two didn't. I think it's interesting to note that Kane's deal was structured similar to a syndicated comic strip deal.
According to Comics Buyer's Guide columnist Catherine Yronwode, “Kane himself once told me that his very first contract with DC was different than Siegel and Shuster's Superman contract because Kane’s father, who worked in the newspaper business, knew that comic strip creators and newspaper columnists made lots of money, so because Bob was not of legal age, he negotiated on Bob's behalf and got some kind of ancillary rights clause written that promised Bob extra money or points in case Batman was used in other formats (movies, strips, books, toys). Kane told me that the reason he made out so well and Siegel and Shuster did not was that HIS dad looked out for him, and their folks did not -- and that the early contract his dad had negotiated formed the basis for the renegotiated contracts of later years.
