    Simply awesome Shazam sculpt

Not sure where to post this, so it goes here. I guess this is the future of sculpting. It's a computer designed build and a 3-D printer. Guess sculpey is becoming obsolete...

Here's the on-screen rendering and final product. Insanely well done.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

^Yeah, talk about having some Make-Bot projects, right?

            That sculpt is wicked nice.

I've both talked to and overheard conversations of sculpture industry guys over the past few years and the 3d software route gets a lot of mixed reaction.
But it sounds pretty similar to the conversations I have about wax (my pref) vs sculpey (pretty uncommon in commercial work unless you need a quick rough composite or to save material as a filler on larger sculpts) vs casteline... but then since the casteline mix had to change to accommodate changed US import standards I hear the stuff is now sort of useless.
            Anyway everyone has their favorites.
There are sculpting purists that also maintain the digital only angle has no soul and is cookie cutter work. They sound eerily similar to the "vinyl has a fuller sound" guys. I don't disagree, just saying. Most of the criticism comes from a digital habit of creating half a model and then copying and inverting/flipping it to create the other side - giving faces and anatomy more symmetry than exists in nature (and looking at ref points like top of foot arch, boot cuff, knees and arms you can kind of tell that was done here).

At a certain point it's all scanned in for mold tooling anyway, right? So it's going to become a CAD version eventually these days.

That is one sweet take on Capt. Marvel!!! I'd buy that up in heartbeat! Just think what that same software could do for Supes or Batman-----or anything else!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I like the sculpt, but it's got a little of the Russel Pittman effect going on IMHO.
