That's amazing that he ended up having so many key issues from a short, but very very key, period of time (1938-41). It's nice to see that finds like this can still happen.

Pretty Amazing. Good thing no one just assumed that they were just "a bunch of old books" and tossed them away.
          It's all good!

that's a really cool story. The Uncle is from my parent's home town and he worked at Dupont when my Grandma did.

Great story. Just out of curiosity; I was reading recently that Action Comics #1 had a print run of 250,000 but only 50-100 are known to exist. Why such a small amount? I realize that many were thrown away and a lot were used to help the war drive but that seems like a really small number compared to the print run.

There really wasn't a collector's mentality post-depression. People didn't save things unless it had a use. Comics, magazines and newspapers were cheap and disposable. I'm sure Wertham's war on comics in the early 50s didn't help either with the comics that survived the paper drives during the war.

Has anyone seen a full list of the comics in this collection?

the prices the books went for seems rather low. recent sales of Action #1 and Tec #27 both went for over a million

The copies of Action and Detective that went for a million were in a lot better shape than the ones in this collection.

Wartime paper drives also accounted for the loss of Golden Age comics. Heck, comic characters ASKED kids to turn their comics over for recycling for the war effort.

This is indeed, an awesome story!

Cool story but I don't find it as shocking anymore when this stuff turns up.
Thinking about it there just had to kids even back them who said "I don't to throw my comics out" and while they couldn't save everything probably hid a what they could.
