Rough picture. Hawkeye looks constipated and Scarlett looks like she's making those "whoosh whoosh" sounds kinds make when they are playing super heros.

The reactions to photos like this is one of the reasons I'm wondering how the general public will respond to the Avengers. Is it too much?
On the other hand with the films of the solo characters doing so well, particularly Iron Man, it could be a blockbuster.
There really is a problem translating super heroes to the big screen. It's hard to find people who can pull off a super hero physique and act. I mean as great as Christopher Reeve was as Superman and as solid of shape as he was in (6-4, 220), I absolutely think he looks skinny in those films. No comic book artist has ever drawn Superman to look as lean (perhaps Kevin Nowlan in some covers) as Reeve is in the films.
I just hope the story and script are good. All the actors have the chops to deliver if the script and plot are good.Last edited by madmarva; Feb 21, '12, 8:02 PM.Comment

Agreed, that's a terrible picture to release to the public for any kind of promotion. Just a few little tweaks here and there would have made big differences.
Hawkeye - Probably my favorite comic Avenger, but poorly adapted here. Renner is the perfect actor to play him, though. He needs sleeves.
Cap - Add ears and make the belt/pouches black. It's amazing how basic design elements are ignored.
Widow - Not too different from the Iron Man films. I find it difficult to see her being useful against an alien invasion.
I'm very much looking forward to this film but it's a HUGE risk/reward situation. I hope the forward momentum of last summer's films keep this going, but with gas prices possibly shooting close to five dollars by Memorial day, I think America may back off movie going until things come back down to reality. I'll be there opening day regardless.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

I think gas prices may keep people from paying $150 for a concert ticket, but nothing will keep folks from seeing this movie for ten bucks.
Bad picture or not, I can't wait!!sigpic

Amen brother. I hear a lot of complaining form folks that will, I'm guessing, purchase a ticket on opening night.Comment

Oh it's gonna be huge! All those super heroes PLUS Joss Whedon? What could possibly go wrong?
A lot of complaining about technicalities will alway come from the Über-geeks, but the great unwashed masses (self included) will eat it up.
Hell, even if the script downright sucks (Joss Whedon? I doubt it), the sheer amount of awesome crammed into this film will probably override it.
I really wish I trusted Hot Toys rubber - I'd love to have this set in 12".
But I don't, so I won't.Even My Henchmen Think I'm Crazy.Comment

Updated Photo on First Page of Thread!!!
First photo updated with better photo, one with Cap not split in half.
Sadly, it doesn't help. Cap would STILL be the laughing of stock of all the OTHER super-heroes who have far cooler costumes in movies...!sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

A little speculation....
Here's an the image of Cap from the previous photo in this here thread. It was actually "clean" enough for me to take it into Photoshop and do some rudimentary manipulations on it and get him looking to closer what, IMHO, might've made Cap fans happier....
You'll notice that I got rid of the ridiculous (and distracting) zipper that goes up his midsection and into his chest; I enlarged the star on his chest since that is to Cap what Batman's bat is to him; I made the sleeves on his suit white all the way down; I browned his belt so it provides a bit of separation on his torso; I brought the cowl down across his shoulders so that it ties in more to the chestpiece; I darkened the front of the cowl and enlarged the "A" (like they should have done!) and, last, but certainly not least, I gave him what I think are a fairly convincing pair of wings on his helmet that are dimensional, but don't look silly---at least IMHO...sigpic Oh then, what's this? Why, thank you, Hector, I appreciate the compliment!
It was actually fun, but it makes me sad to think that NO ONE in Hollywood could see in their head what I see in my head as far as Cap is concerned...!sigpic Oh then, what's this? Not bad, that zipper was really distracting and made the outfit look unfinished (on his chest I mean). Also glad you got rid of that silver stripe in the red (I didn't even notice it until I didn't see it on yours....if that makes sense). I would've kept the silver stripes on his shoulders, though; to balance the star out a bit. I also would've made the navy blue things, under the star, grey to match the sleeves. But these are just nit-picks. I think you did a great job!
