DC has finally decided to retire the Captain Marvel name and officially call him Shazam.They did try it out recently in the Trails of Shazam series but that was Freddy Freeman, not Billy Batson.

And then we run into the age old problem Captain Marvel Jr had... a superhero who can't say his own name!
You can see the corporate reasoning for this... given that they have high hopes for the Big Red Cheese on the big screen, branding and TM is everything and it gets really muddy when the competition is named Marvel. A real shame though.
What I'm finding most fascinating is how much they are going to be pushing the magic angle... it's well known the new head of DC Entertainment came on board from the Harry Potter franchise and that they really are trying to leverage DC brands into Potter territory in terms of $$$ returns and tent pole summer movie expectations. Nowadays, I'm inclined to agree with you, Hec. But back in "the day" (whenever the hell that was), Marvel's Marvell was a force to be reckoned with.
