This is one for all the TRUE Spidey fans...

It will be a happy 2012 for fans of John Romita and his classic work on Marvel’s The Amazing Spider-Man with IDW Publishing’s JOHN ROMITA’S THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: ARTIST’S EDITION. This must-have collector’s hardcover is the fourth in IDW’s Artist’s Edition series and will offer one hundred and forty-four pages of original Romita Spider-Man art.

Romita took over the art duties on Spider-Man after series co-creator Steve Ditko left the book. It was a hard act to follow, but Romita would soon make the book his own and go on to be arguably the most popular Spider-Man artist to ever draw the wall-crawler.

“John Romita was THE Spider-Man artist for a generation of fans,” said Scott Dunbier, editor of the Artist’s Edition line, “and looking at these lush originals it’s easy to see why. Absolutely exquisite work!”

An oversized, hardcover collection, JOHN ROMITA’S THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: ARTIST’S EDITION will feature 144 pages of beautiful stories and a gorgeous cover gallery. All the pages in the ARTIST’S EDITION will be scanned from original art to ensure the highest possible quality reproduction. While appearing to be in black and white, each page will be scanned in color to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for instance, white-out corrections, non repro-blue pencil, paste-overs, etc. All the things that make original art unique!

“There are few artists who’ve made a bigger impact in comics than John Romita and it’s exciting to see his work brought to life this way”, said Dan Buckley, Publisher & President, Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide Inc. “No fan of Marvel will want to miss the unique look at some of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever told.”

JOHN ROMITA’S THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: ARTIST’S EDITION ($100, hardcover, black and white, 144 pages, 12” x 17”) will be available in stores in December. Diamond order code: OCT11 0341. ISBN 978-1-61377-144-0.
THIS is a Benjamin I will be more than tickled s**tless to put down! From some of the shots I've seen of the interior pages, this book looks to be the stuff of dreams for Romita Spider-Man fans. I tried to plug a few more in here, but sadly, they would not show up. Harry Knowles has a few up over on AICN if you want to check those out. Well worth the visit. I can't wait to get this book in my hands!!!!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Ditko WOULD be cool, but he is such a hermit, I don't know that it would ever happen. Of course, I don't know how much say so the particular artists have in the case of books like these since the artwork is all owned by Marvel...
