    I would see the movie....

....if one of THESE guys was the villain:

6 Insane Batman Villains You Won't See in the Movies | Cracked.com

....and they played it TOTALLY straight.

Yeah---Bats has definitely fought some weirdos in his day. The chances that any of these guys making it to the big screen would probably skyrocket to 100% if they brought Schumacher back to the Batman series...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

        >Bats has definitely fought some weirdos in his day.

That's what makes me sad about a lot of the newer stuff, like the movies; they try so hard to "serious" everything up and end up having everything look and feel the same. Superheroes SHOULD be all freaky; it's what makes them not the usual action film where everyone wears a slightly strange costume. ESPECIALLY Batman; his baddies are all whackadoos, they should be allowed to BE whackadoos! I know everybody loved the Joker in the last film but he really wasn't that crazy; other than setting the money on fire he was the baddie from any 80's action film.... except the Joker's plans actually worked....

*sigh* Bring on Calendar Man! That's what I say!

I agree with you 100%, Don. I think if you remove too much of the fantastic or fantasy element from a comic book-based movie, then it just becomes something----else. I know there are herds of avid TDK lovers on these boards, but whenever I watch it, I feel basically like I'm watching a crime drama with a nuttier than usual, but not theatrically homicidal, bad guy and a guy who just happens to dress up like a bat. I believe there IS a point where a comics movie can get too grounded. I think a large portion of that mentality is what hurt something like GREEN LANTERN which, by its very nature, fully swims in the realm of the fantastic....

Too funny! Those characters sound like something an 8-year-old came up with.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Im one of those that didnt really understand the fuss over TDK. I actually thought Scarecrow had been a better villian the way the joker was written. I think clayface would be interesting.

A few of them have been revamped to be less silly. The Calculator WAS Oracle's opposite number in the secret society of super villains, and now dresses like Larry King. Either way, the kid getting a DC Classics action figure based on him would be rightly upset.

Calender Man went all Silence of the Lambs in Long Halloween.

But c'mon, how is tattooing a crown of months around your head any less stupid than dressing up as a calender? As we see here by his appearance in the recent Batman Arkham video game.

Although a few of them have shown up in Brave and Bold in all their campy glory.

I'm really shocked Crazy Quilt hasn't gone all Buffalo Bill in the DCU, "quilting" his "crazy" costume out of skin flayed from his victims. I think Geoff Johns pitched that as his Kite-Man revamp, but was rejected.

What's really sad is how decidedly un-toyetic Batman movie tie in toys have been since the Nolan revamps.

I mean how does this make it into Toys R Us? What kid wants this?

and don't get me wrong, I love me the Gary Oldman Gordon, but seriously?

those toys are good examples of why i dont like modern toys. Great likenesses yea, but i prefer the mego "superfriends" look over stuff like this.

*snerk* Really? HAW! That's great! I dunno.... the "seriousing" of superheroes kuinda smacks of self-consciousness on the part of the folks doing it. Like they WANTED to do something "real" but ended up in comics, or film, or whatever; and are only doing this until their fifteenth-generation Marlowe swipe gets picked up.

I know the usual mantra is "we gotta do it for wider audeince appeal;" which I doubt. I think folks will go see just about any movie, and I suspect they'll accept pretty much anything, provided it's got a car chase and something blows up in a tunnel.

                          >whenever I watch it, I feel basically like I'm watching a crime drama with a nuttier than usual

I kinda felt it was the '89 one with the weird sucked out.
