Is the Bat Signal obsolete ?

Just had a weird thought ... In today's cell phone society is the Bat Signal obsolete ?

Do the police REALLY want the public to know they need help AGAIN ?

Can't they be a little more subtle ?

I don't think the Bat Signal would EVER be obsolete. I agree with previous posters;
not only is it a signal to Batman, it's also a signal to the criminal element that some serious s**t is about to head their way!!!

Isn't the Batsignal only good on cloudy nights? On a clear night there's nothing to shine it on. Or is it just always overcast is dreary old Gotham?

Frank Miller addressed that in "The Dark Knight Returns" by having the Bat Signal projected on the side one of Gotham's taller buildings, henceforth removing the need for clouds....
