    Reboot MANIA!

....and they're all OLD! Reinforcing the idea that the good ol' days weren't always so good:

The 6 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Superhero Reinventions | Cracked.com

    My smarmy comments:

#6: It's interesting that the Titans and Metal Men went the superspy route around this time as well. The Titans even "lost" their powers by refusing to use them. Was this just 'cos of "Bond mania?"

#5: Not the stupidest idea I've ever seen, but it leads to a lot of problems in the long run. So.... if there IS a Heaven in your continuity, why do they let all these bad guys run around? How do they feel about Galactus? How do they feel about all the other alien gods running around? Does the place have a revolving door, considering how many guys seem to get out? (Jean Grey has her own entrance. "We kept things the way you left 'em Miss.... just like the last time.")

#4: They refrence the '91 version, but it seems to me "smart Hulk" has been a running theme for a long time. Didn't they do something similar back in the early 80's?

#3: The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is only one death....

    #2: BWAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!

#1: Didn't this one get reused too? Wasn't this similar to the whole "US Agent" thing from the 80's?

Hulk wasn't stupid in his earliest incarnation, just surly. In the 80s Banner controlled the Hulk (even during the 1st Secret Wars mini) but then Banner was lost and Hulk was totally mindless for a bit.

The Nomad storyline was actually good, as was the John Walker/Cap storyline a decade later. Steve quit then so he wouldn't be a government puppet. Turns out the Red Skull was behind it all (of course). Steve became "The Captain", and then his replacement, John Walker took that suit and became US Agent after giving up the Captain America role.

I still think Knightfall was pretty derivative of this storyline, showing fans what a bloodthirsty, edgy character in the suit would be like, so they could better appreciate the old, morally-centered version.

Storm was never cooler then she was with the mohawk. Not only did she lose her powers but she proved she could keep up with the other X-Men AND lead them.

One has to wonder the same thing with DC.

Yeah most of that is pure drek. I do, however, love the professor Hulk era. That run of Peter David/Keown/Frank is so awesome to me. I'll really have to research and see if that's been collected in any form. FOr a nearly two year run, that was just great to me, maybe one of my all-time favorites. I thought it was a fun take on the character.

The rest just baffles me. THinking out of the box is fine. Forgetting what a box looks like is a separate matter.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

Yeah.... but DC lucked out for a while with the whole "Earth 1,2,3" thing: they could shunt stuff that didn't fit in onto one of the other worlds, maintaining continuity while still rebooting their books. "Oh, that was the Super Hip of 'Earth Q' that died...." (I suspect "Earth B" has grown crowded these l;ast few years....)

Marvel definitely dabbled with the idea, but kept the other worlds/dimensions/timelines isolated from the "main" Marvel universe. (For a while, anyhoo....)
