Ditko's original look for the Goblin did look more medieval, with the hood covering his whole head and neck. Alex Ross' scrapped designs for the first Spidey movie gave him a very medieval look, and brought in some aspects of Hobgoblin too.

My guess is HE was the problem. With the mechanical mask - defoe could pull it back and be seen.
Stars want there faces seen and it is part of the contract.

a couple of good (bad) examples are Venom and Steel.

I agree with Scott that the mechanical mask also fits in better with the tech suit and movie origin than a rubber mask

Oh but to dream how much better the movie would have looked.

Alex rss GG life-size bust always seemed the best realistic way of dealing with the green goblin mask as an incredibly form fitting mask that allowed norman's features to show through, but as you can see from the eye lenses, it was definitely a mask.

The Humberto Rams redesigned costume is by no means perfect, but I thought pot raying the goblin's hat as this kind f mddle aged cap/hood thingy would have worked well for a movie design.

Wow, that is dead on! I'm sure they would have added the front point to the stocking cap, and they you would have had it.

I remember on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Osborn actually turned into the Green Goblin, and had invented a ray or chemical to change all of New York as well.

Well except that Norman Osborn was completely crazy, in that mental state you might wear just about anything. Ask the Joker, Penguin Riddler.

Given the fact that despite all the misfires and disasters, it's a bonafide broadway hit and will undoubtably go Turing in order to recoup the ridiculously insane costs. It apparently plays well to the middle of the road tourist crowd in much the manner of most disney live shows (lion king being the non toyetic exception).

My one regret is that I missed the opportunity to see the absolute car crash spectacle of the original Taymore version. I'd find bad extravagance much more entertaining than a middling crowd pleaser.

That's the Joker wearing his Creature Halloween costume. The actor from Smallville is playing Spider-man on stage now?

The Hulk Goblin in Ultimate Spiderman makes so much more sense now given that USM launched to capitalize on the movie. It was the one aspect of Ultimate Spiderman that always felt wrong to me, and the one change that I wished they could have avoided.

They could have done a transformation without hulking him out, although given the tight continuity of The Ultimates, it made sense at the time since everyone in the Ultimates community at the time was in a race to recreate the Super Soldier formula. So you had Banner, Osborne, Pym etc all with their fingers in the genetic pie at the same time.

You,ve got such an expressive actor in Defoe, it makes absolutely no sense to cover that face up when makeup and latex would do such a better job in bringing the character to life.

Wow... This is one case where I would wholehearted support Raimi if he wanted to go back and "lucus" the original film back to his original vision. It would make a great film just about perfect.

Wow, I'm so glad they decide to go for the Power Ranger look instead. Kidding of course. Minus needing to be a bit greener, this is sooooo much awesomer and truer to the real Goblin. Gahhhhh

Well, sort of. The idea behind the awful suit was that it was connected to the glider...with out it, he wouldn't be able to fly the Glider.
