    DC Nation

    OK I love this:

DC Nation Is the Best, Smartest Thing They've Done in Forever - Topless Robot

In the presentation Sam Register gave recently (don't know where the thread is) we saw Mike's Mego collection in one segment, dying to see that one.

That's pretty cool, although I don't think that s a tiny titans short.... It's just a Superdeformed bit taken from the Teen Titans cartoon series.

A Tiny Titans cartoon done on the MegoMilk style would be totally bomber though.

Yeah, they're apparently bringing back Teen Titans in super-deformed mode, with the original voice cast.

Why they haven't done a Tiny Titans toon is beyond me! Perfect for shorts like this!

Please tell me they are not making that claymation garbage part of this. I saw the preview of that this past Friday. ugh.

^But it's brilliant...because it's British! Don't you know that? They gave us Monty Python!

It's good they are bringing back that version of Titans but I do worry about kids then going to comic stores and finding the new Titans and Starfire.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

^Yeah, good point. It's even more disturbing now that she's drawn as 3-feet tall.

I've got confidence in the goofy claymation bits. It's Aardman... Who brought us Wallace and Gromit and the ridiculously kid friendly Shawn the sheep.

Less the boobs and sex in Red Hood and the Outlaws (given the fact that it doesn't look anything like something that a cartoons titans fan would want anyways... And shame on any comic store owner who'd suggest )... Folks would probably get more mileage with their concern that Brave and Bold kid fans get their hands on Arkham City or a bluray of The Dark Knight. Or even any batman comic by Frank Miller, that has likely a metric tonne more copies in print worldwide.

All this fear mongering online does is give an otherwise mediocre book a much appreciated publicity bump... And let's not pretend that it wasn't intentional and desired by a company notorious for using controversy to sell. If it's a quality product, that publicity bump will keep readers who would otherwise drop the book or leave it on the shelves regardless, if not it just disappears into the dusty back issue bins.

With the lack of comic stores, kids are more likely to find an Adam Hughes drawing of Starfire on a google search than stumble into a comic store and find a copy of Red Hood and the Outlaws, much less want to read it over a copy of Tiny Titans or Teen Titans Go. remember, the Girl's reaction that was circulating the net? That copy was HANDED TO HER BY HER DAD.

Those in the Toronto area who do have those concerns, might want to check out Little Island Comics in the Annex... The Beguiling'd newest storefront devoted exclusively to kid's comics.

Okay - so The Beguiling owns Little Island Comics? That makes a lot of sense now.

There are ratings on the comic books. Just like movies and video games. I have no issue with more adult DC Comics. It doesn't have to be all for the kids. (for the record, I'm not a fan of how they treat Starfire but I'll defend their right to tell more adult stories if that's what they want to do.)

Anyway, DC Nation looks promising. It's too bad I don't get the Cartoon Network here in Canada. Though when I put it up against Teletoon Retro...I think I come out on top.

What is really quite delightful about this is that it is taking over the space that was formerly occupied by one of the worst comic stores.

I believe if memory serves, that it is also functioning as a showroom for educators and librarians who bring kid friendly comics into the school system.

Although the irony that the original owners of the Beguiling used to sell me Heavy Metal magazine and underground comix when I was 13 years old is in no way lost to me.

Thus turning me into the delinquent I am today. Wertham was right all along!
