Awesome! I finally managed to locate a copy of his previous out of print retrospective book a while back, but this one will look good on the bookshelf for sure.
This one is tough to find as well.

Jack Davis was always one of my favorites from MAD, along with Kurtzman and Martin. Would you guys consider him to be the most talented from EC?Comment

Looks like a cool book.
EC had so much talent under their roof that it's really hard to decide who was the best. I guess it's all a matter of taste and subjective anyway. Personally, I think Johnny Craig was really underrated, Ingels was a master at horror, and I love the way Jack Kamen drew women. Davis had a raw, earthy style and was good at drawing horror, war and humour stories. He stunk at science fiction though. He tried drawing a SF story once or twice, and everyone involved agreed that it wasn't his forte at all.Last edited by cjefferys; Nov 14, '11, 7:06 PM.Comment

Yeah, Kurtzman is incredible - clearly (in my mind) the most talented and creative EC and near the top of the list for comics in total.
Though, in that "Top 5 Artists" thread I think I choose Davis over Kurtzman because I decided to limit my choices to drawing and drawing style. Kurtzman is still high on that list for me too - but if I could draw like anyone else, I'd like to be able to draw like Davis or Wood.Comment

Kurtz an is always difficult for me because it's so rare that you can strictly judge him on the merits of just his artwork alone... Since he wears so many hats and has such strict control over the final product. Just looking at the recent hardcover coffee table retrospective of Kurtzman's work, you see how involved and labour intensive everything from Two Fisted Tales, to Mad, to Little Annie Faany was.
Yet you rarely see his hand in a work like Annie Fanny... Instead the glossy veneer of Will Elder and co over the solid bones and foundation provided by Kurtzman.
