I've got so much of this stuff, i am now questioning why I need the b&w versions due to storage space. Do you guys still buy these or the DC counterparts.

Do you still buy Marvel Masterworks and Essentials?

I couldn't handle the b&w versions.. I've been buying up the softcover masterworks, not being able to afford the $30-40 hard cover editions.
BUT, that being said, I'm actually going to start picking 'em up once I have the time to sell some of my VF Marvel comics.. Selling only 1-2 comics at a time will easily pay for each Masterwork edition.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I've been buying them and DC Archives since Day 1 and still do. I will as long as I can afford to.
I only buy the b/w essential and showcase versions of series that I don't think will make it to hardback.
But, these are basically my comic-book collection. I sold off all my back issues years ago. I wish DC was more aggressive with its Archives program, or at least as active as Marvel.Comment

I started collecting the softcover Masterworks as soon as they were announced and have them all to date.
Tried to get into the hardcovers a couple times, but they kept changing the dust jackets so I quit. I really wanted a matching set.Comment

I never really bought the Marvel Masterworks HCs - I'm not crazy about the reproduction quality and they're too expensive. I have all the Spider-Man softcovers though, for the money it's nice to have them all. I also picked up the 2 Fantastic Four Omnibus books.
I have a bunch of the DC Archives - but they drive me a little crazy too, though I think the linework looks better than the Marvel Masterworks - maybe it's just me though.
DC also did a great job with the MAD Archives and The Spirit, so I have the MAD ones and I've been picking up The Spirit ones used here and there for a while.
I hated that our choice for the longest time was super-white glossy pages with bad digital remastering OR horrible low grade newsprint in black and white.
I love the new DC Omnibus books - the newsprint paper looks way better than the high gloss white - and the reproductions look great - in my opinion.Comment

I have a few DC archives, but the price tag is prohibitive. I like the Essentials and Showcase books, since my main objective is just to read them and enjoy the artwork. Marvel will occasionally throw in a page that is just scanned from a color comic, but that's my only real gripe.
My wife's library has discarded several of the Superman and Batman Chronicles, so I've managed to get several volumes of each for a quarter a piece!

I have the earliest volumes of Marvel and DC but it's all gotten too expensive at $50+ a volume.sigpic "It's like you're unravelling a big cable-knit sweater that someone keeps knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting..."Comment

been picking up the soft covers, too. At 14 bucks or so on Amazon, its a deal and a half. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Have a few, but the fact that they were b&w always put me off. I always go for colour reprints whenever possible.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

I have only one I was given by a friend. Beyond that, most of the stuff I like is within reach price wise, so I'd rather have the originals. more fun to hunt them down, have the stories in color see all the ads etc. Plus nothing omitted due to current copywrite situations.Comment

I have the X-Men 94 and up masterworks....mainly because I want to sell off my X-Men collection. That's basically it. As for the DC Archives, I have the All Star Comics archives (Missing I think 1 of the volumes) and I have all the Thunder Agents Archives even though I have all the Tower issues. I would tell anyone within the NY area that you should try the Big Apple Shows when they happen because there are a few dealers that sell the Archives and Masterworks at half cover."When not too many people can see we're all the same

Their eyes can't hope to see
