I always loved Caravaggio, but he could never keep up with a monthly schedule so his books were always late. Frustrating!

Wow, naming only 5 is tough, so I'll have to add a few extra:

    Jack Kirby
    John Romita Sr
    Neal Adams
    John Buscema
    John Byrne
    George Perez
    Jim Steranko
    Dave Cockrum
    Howard Chaykin
    Carmine Infantino
    Jim Aparo
    Ross Andru
    Jose Luis Garcia Lopez
    Dick Giordano

And the legendary Frank Frazetta, and also Ralph McQuarrie for his awesome paintings and concept art.

There are a bunch of others whose work I like, too. But the list could go on for about 50 names so I'll stop there.

When I think of artists, I always associate them with characters, so here's my top 10 and a list based on characters:

These guys make me consider buying the book on their name alone:

    1. Neal Adams
    2. George Perez
    3. Brian Bolland
    4. Curt Swan
    5. Alex Ross
    6. Gil Kane
    7. John Byrne
    8. Jim Aparo
    9. Gary Frank
    10. Garcia Lopez

    By Character:
    Superman — Curt Swan/Lopez/Perez/Byrne/Frank/Boring
    Batman — Neal Adams/Aparo/Bolland
    Green Lantern — Gil Kane/Grell/Reis/Adams
    Spidey — Steve Ditko/Romita/Kane
    FF — Kirby/Byrne
    Thor — Kirby/Simonson/J.Buscema
    X-Men – Byrne/Kirby/Adams/Cockrum
    Conan — John Buscema
    Captain America Byrne/ Epting/Kirby/Zeck
    Hulk — Sal Buscema/Perez/McFarlane/
    Justice League — Perez
    Avengers – Perez/Byrne
    Teen Titans — Perez

I love Lou Fine and Bernard Bailey's work from the Golden Age and Burne Hogarth, Alex Raymond and Milton Caniff's work from the comic strips of the 30s and 40s.

There's a lot of great newer artists working today and as nice as their work is, it just doesn't capture my heart like my favorite artists of my youth. I still read a lot of comics today, but I don't have the time to re-read them and pour over them over and over like I did as a kid.
