Disney needs to keep their GD hands off Marvel characters!

It's bad enough that they took away the Thing's beloved cigars, and the Red Skull cannot be affiliated with Nazis anymore, but today I found two more instances of their meddling.

Their exclusive Marvel select Black Widow figure was supposed to come with two handguns and clearly has hands sculpted to hold them...trigger fingers and all, but they said no guns, so she comes with absolutely no weapons. At all.

THEN, I'm watching the new Avengers cartoon, and I see they changed MODOK's name to MODOC, changing the word "killing" to "conquest"!!

What's next? Wolverine with NERF claws and a Punisher that wears cardigans and talks things out with criminals?

I'm starting to think they had something to do with killing off the Human Torch, because fire is bad too ya know!

I suspect the MODOK change was a censor thing and not a Disney issue.

Yeah, the decisions about the cigars and Nazis were made prior to Disney taking over Marvel.

THe Nazi thing had to go so the movie could be promoted in Europe, and DC characters have fallen prey to the PC anti-smoking campaign.

The no smoking decision was part of the pre-Disney Joe Q era. It wasn't necessarily across the board... For example Fury still smoked in the Max titles.

I seem to recall he was very passionate about friends/loved ones passing away from cancer.

It appears Black Widow as her guns in the Avengers movie.

Although keep in mind prior to the past decade or so, she mostly used her wrist stinger dart thingys

Probably, but remember that the censors aren't some sort of mandated organization: they're a bunch from within either the production company or network who's job is to downplay or remove the stuff someone in the audience MIGHT find objectionable. So they are likely still Disney.

All those changes were done before Disney took over. I have not seen a single evidence of Disney altering anything from Marvel other than an unlimited budget for future projects.

On a side note I remember Wolverine quitting smoking way back in Wolverine #75, only to see him smoke a cigar once again on the Marvel vs DC issue were he and Lobo duke it out. He smoke a cigar after beating Lobo.

Talk about far-fetch, an adamantium less Logan beating up an indestructible Lobo.

They're just going by how M.O.D.O.C.'s orignal name was spelled: Mobile Organism Designed Only for Computing. They just changed the "C" to "Conquest". And for the rest of the complaints, I think Dirtshot said it best:

Edit: Or they could be going by how his name was in the Marvel Adventures: The Avengers comic, which is also Mental Organism Designed Only for Conquest.

I honestly don't think Disney worries about image as it applies to their name unless the film is actually being made by Disney Studios. Disney owns Touch Tone studios, Miramax, and Dimension films. Dimension made the Rob Zombie Halloween movies which were probably the most graphically violent entries in the Halloween franchise. I don't remember seeing Mickey Mouse ears on Michael Myers. So I doubt Disney is trying to dictate too much influence for the theatrical projects.
