other than being a very good artist i know nothing about him.
he might not be fast enough to do a monthly book (or think hes to good to do it)
ive always said one of the biggest parts of comics are the people so.....

There is a line of people with no end who have complaints about Jim Shooter. I wouldn't trust anything he says. Steve Rude once outlined characters he wants to work on, (not the most recognized A-List characters), and he said the big companies turned down his ideas. He doesn't want to work on the stuff they want to give him. Still if you have a family and the mortgage is due I think it's no time to be picky. Also from the way he described how he works he does light and shadow studies of covers and panels before drawing them and that takes up valuable time.

I saw him at the Boston Comicon in 2010 and was too intimidated to approach him. Even sitting he seemed like a big guy. I couldn't think of anything to say. I saw his kid help him at the table. He seemed polite and listened attentatively to fans over the background noise of the show.

I've always liked his artwork, especially the Space Ghost book he did. The comic industry has hit hard times like the rest of the workforce. A lot of times I think it comes down to who you know and being in the right place at the right time.

When I met Jim Shooter in 1996 at the Capital City Retailers Convention in St. Louis, I thought he was a very cool guy. He was more than willing to talk comics for long stretches, sign autographs, etc. Of course, it WAS a retailers convention and he was in charge of Defiant Comics at the time & trying to get us all to carry his books in our stores. Warriors of Plasma was soooooooo underrated! LOL.

Never met Rude, but if you are talking about long lines of people who complain about somene....you are the 1st person I have ever seen say a kind word about Steve Rude. Don't get me wrong, I am glad you had a great experience and enjoyed your encounter, that's what conventions are for. Just saying grats, you are in the minority.

I was referring to industry people who have beef with Shooter-not fans at conventions. I saw Shooter at a Big Apple Con over a decade ago in upstate NY and he was very enjoyable to listen to as he explained things that happened during his time at Marvel. Tho, based on interviews I have read in recent years he could be making all of it up.

Many insiders have major complaints about Shooter and his time at Marvel. Shooter is also known for believing his own hype. I have not heard complaints about Steve Rude. He doesn't have the bad rep Shooter has in the industry.
