    Halloween comics

Began re-reading Batman Long Halloween tonight and was wondering if there might be some other suggestions for Halloween-themed comics.

    So what do y'all think.

I remember a Halloween themed issue of Super Friends as a kid that had Swamp Thing and Solomon Grundy in it which was kinda fun. If I remember correctly it took place at a Halloween Party.

There's also DC Comics Presents No. 8 with a fantastic Garcia Lopez cover featuring Swampy, Grundy and Superman.

I've been slogging through the Tomb of Dracula omnibi since August. Love Colon's art, but boy those '70s Marv Wolfman scripts rival Roy Thomas' for purple prose. You'd think those guys were paid by the word.

I live near Rutland, VT and thanks to the late Tom ***an it and it's Halloween parade were featured in a number of comics back in the 1970's starting with Marvel's Avengers #83, Marvel Feature #2, Thor #206 & 207, The Beast #16, more recently in Generation X #22 and also in DC's Batman #237 and Justice League of America #103. Information on all the appearances can be found here http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix4/rutlandvt.htm

This forum needs to do something about it censoring program as the F & a & g are omitted from Tom's last name and that's ridicules. I also saw someone selling something in the market place and the F & u were omitted after the word Kung - as in the Chinese martial arts.

Man, I hate dial-up when you guys load these threads full of huge images. I need to get a better connection...

My son still insists I read him comic stories nightly, because I do the voices ( I do a mean Conroy Batman if I do say so myself). So in October it's always Halloween themed issues.

I've read him Action Comics Annual #1, about a southern-fried vampire named Skeeter, with an eerie plot by John Byrne and fantastic art by Art Adams and Dick Giordano. The ending to that one is particularly haunting.

One of my personal favorites is another encounter between Batman and a Vampire, "Heart of a Vampire" from Detective #455, by Elliot S. Maggin and Mike Grell. It's the closest you'll ever get to Batman being in a Hammer horror movie! The vampire in question, Gustav DeCobra, bears a strong resemblance to Christopher Lee, and according to Grell, he looked even MORE like Lee before DC forced Grell to change the artwork to avoid legal troubles.

While we're on a Batman kick, you can't bypass Batman #255 and "Moon of the Wolf" by Len Wein and Neal Adams (in his final Batman story of the 70s). This episode was adapted into a fairly lackluster (by the usual high standards) episode of BTAS, but the visceral art and more humanoid werewolf of Adams' version works better for me.

Going way, WAY back is Batman's encounter with the Monk from Detective #31 and 32 by Gardner Fox and Bob Kane and co. Fox can't seem to decide if the Monk and Dala are werewolves are vampires, but hey, vampires can become wolves, right?
