DC changes Wonder Woman's origin- spoilers.

The New York Post spoiled issue 3 of the new WW comic.

Zeus is now her dad. Meh, kinda uninspired and too much "Luke, I am your father." Ares was better than that in JL and her classic made of clay origin was best in the WW animated movie. Ah, well.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Wonder Woman #1 was fantastic I thought. I could care less who her father is so I'm not bothered by it. On the animated Justice League it was sort of implied that her father was Hades right?

I thought it was all right. Good but not great. Personally, could have done without the dressing scene. Same with Batwoman. The scenes were just there to show side breasts shots and weren't really needed, in my opinion.

I thought Batgirl was better and JL Dark was also pretty good.

Takes away from her uniqueness and now she is just the female Hercules.

It seems like, to me, the direction they are taking is Hercules the Legendary Journeys and Xena and that's okay for a while. But they shouldn't forget Wonder Woman is superhero. I want to see her fighting supervillains too.

I really liked the Perez's updated origin, but I want to see what the creative team does with the Zeus angle before I condemn it. If it was put in just the consider clay come to life origin silly, then I agree it takes some of the magic and myth away.

All the greek gods had weird magical origins — Athena sprung from Zeus' head. Venus was sea foam and so on — Wonder Woman's just echoed those as well as the Judeo-Christian view of how God formed man from the earth.

This is why it was changed.

Wonder Woman's Origin Fundamentally Changed (Again) in the New DC Universe [SPOILERS] - ComicsAlliance | Comic book culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews

"DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee told the Post that rewriting the character's origins to make her the offspring of two parents rather than, say, sand could make Wonder Woman accessible to many readers. "In this case, making her a god actually makes her more human, more relatable," said Lee."

              Umm, yeah.

That's an assinine statement! Is Superman not accessible then because he's Kryptonian? Should we make him born on earth to Jonathan and Martha Kent and cut out the whole Jor-El and Lara schtick?

                I can't relate to Aquaman because I can't talk to fish....I can't relate to Batman because I don't have a Batmobile...

And thus Jim Lee proves yet again that he is an idiot. He should really just shut up and draw fanboy art.

Yeah, poor decision. Lee doesn't get why that origin works within the context of the character and mythology. Zeus had many love children in the myths, and in a fictional universe likely scores more in the 2500 years since the myths began making the rounds. What would make Diana so special that she deserves a comic book over, say, Hercules? I'm sure they are going to run away from the U.S. patriotism that is inherent in the character, as well. DC's been doing that since the 1980s.

DC wonders why some of its characters don't work any more, all the while stripping from them some of the aspects the characters were built upon.

That being said, I did enjoy the first issue, but it could have as easily been a Zena story set in modern period. Nothing really made it a "Wonder Woman" story other than the costume. Redesign her bathing suit and slap a different logo on the cover and the issue could have been a title by any other publisher. DC calls Wonder Woman part of it's big three, but the past two years of publishing show DC is doing everything it can to run away from the character.

It's actually been longer than that...Wonder Woman hasn't really been a part of the "Trinity" in a very long time ...She's been mishandled as far back as "Infinite Crisis" IMO

HAW! I kinda liked the clay origin, it was weird and typical of ancient Greek myths. And I think all you REALLY need for readers to relate ('specially since they declared a while back their target audience is gonna be 14-25 year old boys) is "have chick in swimsuit punch stuff."

If folks REALLY wanted relatable comic characters they wouldn't be reading superheroes.

what's wrong with the origin as is with her being sculpted and imbued with life? They could play up the Pinocchio angle of her always striving to be human.

I'm probably out on a limb here, but isn't Lee's comment a little insulting to single parents to say that readers could only relate to the character if there were two parents involved?
