    The Savage Hawkman (spoilers)

if I missed someone's report on this somewhere I apologize.

I just picked up Savage Hawkman #1

OK. I’ve been waiting for this book to come out. Mostly for the reason that I was fearful that they were going to make Hawkman “radioactive” once more and destroy his complete character where nobody would touch him but they didn’t. (Well, for now).

It starts off where Carter Hall has been Hawkman for moderately a while but appears to be at the end of the rope with existence as “Hawkman” and has been a recluse and angry about something (they never say why he is so ****ed).
So he drives his truck out in the country, takes a walk into the night through the woods and throws his wings and helmet (and whatever else) down on the soil, empties a flask of with quite a quantity of alcohol within it and lights it up into flames. Oddly this stuff burns to ashes? Yeah, that doesn’t makes sense.

    Then all of a sudden…

    Fooosh!

Then, what is left of the Nth metal appears to talk to him in some peculiar method and then explodes all over Carter.
Afterward Carter Hall wakes up after knocked unconscious for some time but he appears to be at his “warehouse” wondering how he got back. Guessing from his reflection bubbles, the hike is relatively a ways away.

Carter notices his skin and body is all blistered at first and he notices his tallest skylight window has been broke where it seems that has come through. Carter also makes sure his wings and helmet are gone, which they are. Of course Carter then discovers he has an amazing healing factor and all of his burns start to heal. Sound like anyone?

I'm going to skip through a lot of BS snoozer stuff. You can read when you get the book.

We find out that Carter Hall has basically been turned into Wolverine. That’s right folks. DC has gone and done it. Well, in my opinion...I could be just making a wild assumption.

Somehow that magical Nth metal has been transformed and place in the interior of his body and he when he is in danger it plainly comes out of his body (surrounding him in armor) along with his wings and his latest wrist type “bladed weapons”.

There’s even a panel where Carter (dressed as the new Savage Hawkman) looks just like Wolverine (the body pose in addition to snarling contortion on his mug).

I sure anticipate this new “Savage Hawkman” and really hope they are not taking on a DC/Wolverine approach.

Toward the end of the book, for some reason or another; Archaeologists require Carter Hall to decipher alien writing on the object found at the bottom of the ocean (Not sure what it was but it started out as a alien vessel later with a mummy like creature in the belly.) Then it turns into this soul sucking alien that begins to drain people. This is where Carter discovers that he has metal inside his body as all these nth metal bits and pieces began to gradually come out of him turning him into…the Savage Hawkman (chuckle…chuckle)

In the end of this first issue; Hawkman is left off fighting some kind of alien that came from this Mummy (it really doesn’t make too much sense.)
I’m hoping issue #2 clears a bit of this up...but it looks as though the Savage Hawkman is about to have his soul or something sucked dry (assuming the metal or whatever is in his body). The aliens says to him..."You are not from this world."....and we're left off with Hawkman dying as this creature continues to another victim with partial pieces of the nth metal sticking out of it's body. Still doesn't make sense. Hopefully issue #2 will clear it up.

    >Carter Hall has basically been turned into Wolverine

    With two-dozen different origin stories?

    *sigh*

Reminded me of the new Blue Beetle more so than Wolverine, but without a doubt it's unoriginal and doomed to be canceled.

That's what I was hoping for when this book was being advertised to be released but....no Thanagar cop. :( RIP Kator Hol.

Awhile ago on a DC spoiler page mentioned something about the JSA having a surprise coming for their fans. So, I assumed all the Earth 2 incarnations would be back to normal and I figured that we were getting the Thanagarian cop back in the new Savage Hawkman but I guessed wrong.

Maybe they thought too many folks would see it as a ripoff of the Green Lantern Corps? 'Specially since the Corps has been so pre-eminent in the DC books for the last year or two.

I keep comparing the two pictures I posted above in my original thread at the beginning.
So maybe this will help me think better if I put them together. Nah, I'm probably way off base thinking that the new "Savage Hawkman" is anything like Wolverine. Right?

That looks like pretty good evidence of a classic comic book "swipe"

From my reading of the first issue, it seems like Carter Hall had been Hawkman for awhile and just gave up on it (presumably after the second death of Shiera Hall in Brightest Day?). After trying to burn the costume, the Nth metal exploded and saturated his body. Am I getting that correct?

It's hard to tell what's canon now with DC, since they jettisoned a lot of continuity, yet books like Batman & Green Lantern seem to have continued on from the pre-52 books. Hawk & Dove & Deadman seem to spin out of Brightest Day, Hawkman may, Aquaman & Swamp Thing definatly do, yet Firestorm seems to not have any previous continuity. I'm assuming a great deal of Blackest Night did not happen, particularly the JSA, Flash, Titans, & Superman storylines. Yet Brightest Day, Red Lanterns, & New Guardians need Blackest Night to have happened in order to exist.
My brain hurts. This is exactly the editorial confusion that happened following the Original Crisis in the 80s. sadly, it seems that once again Hawkman will be a casualty of this meddling. If you're gonna start fresh than do so. You can't have it both ways DiDio.

Yes you got it. It seems when the Nth metal exploded it saturated all over his body and went inside him magically. I should have worded it a bit better then how I did but now for some reason, the metal is now in his body. That's why I was making the Wolverine references.

I always personally thought DC was a day late and a dollar short when it came to Hawkgirl. They should have "cashed in" on her appearance like they did John Stewart. The Hawkgirl on the JLU cartoon was a "bad-***" and I wish DC would have at least kept her around and somehow "magically crafted" her into the Carter Hall storyline. That version of Hawkgirl had (probably still does)has a lot of fans.
The way they made the cartoon Hawkgirl's mace have magic powers and able to smash through walls because of it's Nth metal consistency was brilliant but DC missed the bus on that and they created this Kendra Hawkgirl that only last a small bit and I always thought she "filled in" good but in the end she bit the dust and her character didn't last.
