Ever wanted to see comic art that was overpriced by $413K - $418K...

    Here you go:

CATWOMAN : Original Painting By Jim Balent & Joe DeVito | eBay

Jim Balent is a decent artist, but not even close to being worth 6 figures or even high 5 figures.

This has been relisted for several times by some crackhead...
    My Updated Want List:
    Comic book original art
1970s Hulk or Spider-man metal garbage can
    Custom Mego Nexus, Grendel

Have lots of comics and Marvel Legends figures for trades. Thanks!

Balent's not even that great an artist, he just knew how to overdo certain anatomy parts to appeal to 12 year old boys.

That painting has been up for a Loooooooooooong Time. It's been re-listed for the better part of a year. I wonder why

Ah the Russ Meyer Catwoman, I always cringed at comics in the 90s.

We should Do the, "Ask Seller a Question" bit and ask why it's over priced, why it doesn't sell and why is the seller brain-dead, etc.

Prices have come up because comic art is basically being treated as "Art". You just have to pick and choose what you can afford. I'd love to have an original Gil Kane Conan cover...can't afford an original so I ended up with a pre-lim for a cover. You'd be surprised at what you can find at a decent price. I will buy an original cover one day...not just anytime soon. I have a few interior pages...but my goal is to one day own a cover.

Another thing, art from the era we grew up in, (mid-seventies-mid eighties), isn't always out there to collect. Some of it was destroyed some of it was returned to artists, (some was pilfered by people who were there when it wasn't needed anymore). I'm shocked when people show off holy grails from the late `70's sometimes.

Pricing Art almost seems like an oxymoron to me. It is one area in collecting that I just can never grasp. I guess it is fairly easy to value this particular piece by looking at what items have sold for in the past and comparing this subject matter/importance compared to other works. I often see original artwork on collecting shows valued at $30K or so and I would probably walk right by it if it were sitting in a Goodwill not giving it a second look.

It looks like the other pieces in his store s priced within the high end of reasonable... Particularly given what folks are used to paying for original Alex Ross and Bruce Timm pieces.

I'd assume that the seller really doesn't want to part with the Balent Catwoman painting, but would if the price was right. So the eBay page functions a bit like the comic art fans page, to show off the piece and to sell it if the right person comes along with the right offer or trade bait.

Thus the ridiculous price and make me an offer.

For a nickel a month or whatever it costs to list an item in an eBay store these days. Not really much stupidity if there is very little risk or cost involved or drive to sell it.

I thought about the same thing. Maybe a way to show off a piece of art that he doesn't want to part with but give him a venue to sell other items?
