I saw an interview with Johns where he said he is incorporating the whole "Aquaman is lame" joke into the series as kind of a humorous point-counter point thing. I'm a little skeptical about this idea. If he can make it work where it actually makes Aquaman cooler, fine, but it could just blow up in his face.

I've always liked Aquaman probably because of the Super Friends but it would be great if Johns and Reis could really amp him up.

I think that is a very bad idea.

Samurainoir is right, they should use what they did in Brightest Day as template for what they're going to do here. After all, it's that depiction of Aquaman that's help reestablish the popularity he's enjoying now. In BD there wasn't any nudge-nudge, wink-wink about Aquaman's supposed "lameness", they just took the character seriously and treated him with respect.

When Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams moved Batman back to his dark roots in the 70's, that didn't bring up the fact that the general public thought Batman (and comics in general for that matter) was silly. They just dropped the camp and treated the character seriously.

I seriously hope Johns drops this whole in-joke thing after a couple of issues, otherwise I think he really stands to loose any progress he's made with the character.

If I was Freakin' Aquaman, I wouldn't even take a Crap without it.

I think it's the affect of almost every Aquaman action figure coming with one from Captain Action on down (except for Mego). I'm kind of glad to finally see him actually use it. But it does make one wonder, how does he carry it and really swim well?

And better a trident than a hook.

I got to my LCS at 3:10 p.m. and they were already sold out. Not even a spot for it on the rack, so I don't know if he ordered just enough to satisfy his pull and hold customers or what.

When I walked up to the counter to ask him if the shipment of Aquaman comics had been delayed (that's happened before, certain titles get delayed for a couple of days) he looked at me like I had just crawled out of a cave and asked me incredulously "Haven't you been following these?" Told him not really, Aquaman was the only new 52 book I was interested in. He told me they had been selling out everywhere, I responded that I heard that some of the new #1s had been selling out in some places, though there were still plenty in others. Didn't mention that when I was at Barnes and Nobel last Wednesday there was still a ton of that stuff still sitting there.

I ran over to Barnes and Noble to see if they had any Aquaman #1s. Nope. Still had a bunch of the other #1s though. So, against my better judgement, I bought a copy off eBay for $5 plus $3 shipping, $8 total. Ouch. Guess I'll have to wait a couple more weeks to see if this is in fact good or just some DC manufactured hype.

Flash and Aquaman sold out at my LCS, but he knew I wanted to read Aquaman so he held one back for me.

I liked it. A little too much making fun of Aquaman. The way he's drawn he's just so Bad ***** (which is awesome) and has such a presence that I just don't see that guy at the Fish and Chips place talking to him like that.

                          I'm looking forward to #2.

I pre-ordered mine on-line so hopefully there's no problems in getting my copy....I've given up on my LCS...If they sold out of freakin' Batwing I have no hopes that they'd have Aquaman.

THAT was a really good funny book!

There's been a whole lot about the DCnU that has made me feel like comics have passed me by. The adolescent posturing in Justice League, decapitated cops in Nightwing, and the less said about Catwoman the better. However there has been a few bright spots. Aquaman is one of those spots.
                                Hey! Check out the pictures.
