Animal Man is a strange book. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It certainly was interesting, though. It reads more like and Indy book then something the Big 2 would publish. Puma Blues comes to mind. -
Or writer Jeff Lumire's own Indy graphic novel Essex County.Comment

I've read the first book of that series. I don't remember it being so bloody.Comment

Yeah, it does have the Vertigo Horror vibe... I was meaning how he handles the character stuff and domestic scenes.
I was quite fond of Puma Blues... Sorry to see it incomplete.Last edited by samurainoir; Sep 12, '11, 9:08 PM.Comment

Thanks for posting this, Bob. Saved me three bucks. Too bad, too, I liked the old Morrison run and was hoping this would pick up from it. Instead it looks like some shock value and a lot of talking. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. Blah! Animal Man is my favourite character, I planned to buy this sight unseen but I think I'll stick to the Morrison run. The outfit, the predictable goth and gore stuff, disemboweled kids and the art are a cocktail I can do without.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

The grisly nature of almost all mainstream comics really turns my stomach. It's as if the creators really should be off doing other more adult-themed material, and not applying such things to comics. They have apply such things to the material to justify them working in it, rather than just moving on.
