Anybody reading the new Doctor Solar series?

I kinda dismissed this at first because Jim Shooter is writing it, struck me as Valient part 2. But I've flipped through a couple of issues at my LCS and the art seems really nice. I like the painted covers, a nice throw-back to the orginal series.

So is this new series any good? Is it worth picking up?

I liked the Doctor Solar revival, but the Magnus & Turok didn't interest me.
Jim Shooter was saying they planned a Dr. Spektor comic, but I guess that's not happening.
Sadly, Dark Horse has pulled the plug on the Gold Key revivals, citing interferance from the copyright holders and sales not being enough to justify the licensing fees.

I'd hold off and just look for them in the back issue bins. That's where I found the first six issues for a quarter each!

I feel as though we've dodged a bullet. Again.

I dunno, I really liked the original Spektor series and would have supported a revival. I've never disliked of Shooter's work. It has it's highs & lows as all writers' work does, but I think it's his personal comments & attitude that gives him a negative writing rep. I've talked with him a few times and found him polite and friendly. Of course, I don't WORK for him...
The original Dr Spektor series is by the way, one of those truly underappreciated gems of the Bronze Age that should be checked out. Ditto DAGAR & TRAGG from GK which tie into Dr.S here & there. In fact Doctor solar guest-starred a few times, as did The Owl.

I loved the original, but I"d be afraid of what they'd change for a new one.

Dagar was a pretty straightforward barbarian comic (so if you like barbarian comics you'll probably like this one too) but Tragg was AWESOME! By the by: both characters are Spektor's direct ancestors. Tragg was the first "modern" human, and the result of alien tampering. If you remeber the last episode he fights that weird ghost thing.... which is one of these spirits of evil that wanted Tragg dead 'cos they knew his distant descendant; Spektor, would become a powerful occultist and thorn in their side.
