Has it ever been clearer that our demographic is in the rear view mirror as far as DC is concerned? The few good things could be better, and the rest are *******ized. The day of the 43yr old fanman has passed.

              >The day of the 43yr old fanman has passed.

But.... is that a BAD thing? Well.... it is for the 43 year old fans, but DC boned themselves back in the 80's by catering more and more to the "comic shop crowd;" the people who became the 43yr old fanman. (That is such an AWESOME phrase!) They turned their back on any potential new audience.... that is, kids and casual readers.... and now they reap the results. Those kids who WOULD have been superhero fans found other comics to read, (no, it wasn't video games and cell phones.... it was all those comics you see selling on newsstands, bookstores, and NOT comic shops) skipping the supers entirely. DC NEEDS to turn it's back on the 40 year old fans if they're gonna thrive.

The mistake I think they're making is that they're half-assin' it; they're trying to make things "new" without cheesing off the oldsters. So you end up with really stupid patchwork versions of everything, none of it makes any sense, none of it would hook someone unfamiliar with the characters already, and most of it jerks around whatever continuity they HAD establiashed for the last year. And next year, it all starts again with the NEXT big reboot.

Yeah, Johns/Goyer really did some heavy lifting in JSA to make something out of all the crap that stuck to the Hawks talons after Crisis.

Johns/Robinson series was well done, but as others pointed out, other writers had problems doing anything with that concept that wasn't repetitious.

I would kind of like to see a Thangarian Hawkman without the Earth 2 trappings to see if someone can do anything with the concept. Or maybe, DC will go in a totally different direction.

Daniel's writing on Batman has been serviceable and improved greatly since battle of the cowl, but by no means does him being the writer on the book doesn't excite me. Like all the other Hawkman series, I'm sure this one will fade away rather quickly. I only hope that DC sets up a Hawkman character worthy enough to be used in the Justice League or another team book or as a guest star.

If this doesn't appeal to our generation, I honestly don't see who it does appeal to. Kids aren't going to find much of interest here, the 20 year olds have for the most part grown up without comics so I really don't see them jumping on the bandwagon either.

Well.... the 20 year olds DID grow up with comics.... LOTS of 'em.... (do I hafta mention 40+ volumes of "Prince of Tennis" AGAIN?) but they're way different from these. That's what I was getting at earlier: DC let an entire generation of readers pass them by. And you're right: this sort of thing won't matter to them. Folks who are used to a comic with a developing continuity, where characters actually change, dead = dead, the authors don't change every few months, and since the entire run is readily available the past doesn't just disappear when it's no longer convenient are NOT gonna get into these books. The dominant template for "viable comic book" changed, and DC hasn't noticed; instead relying on the ol' (and I mean OLD) "all new! all different!" schtick. I think that's the reason behind the endless reboots. Hell; haven't they ALREADY done the big "52" reboot? They're recycling ideas so fast they're lapping themselves....

                      .
That metaphor pretty much sums it up perfectly.

It amounts to a relay race with Calvin Ball rules. Green Lantern and Batman are 5 laps ahead and told to keep running, Superman is told to simultaneously run in the opposite direction backwards while keeping up alongside Batman, and others like Green Arrow or Hawkman are randomly pulled from the track and told to start over or to skip every other lap, while folks like John Constantine and Frankenstein, competing in long jump and shot put are instructed to enter the field and avoid collisions.

I feel like the only comic fan who couldn't care less about anything to do with Hawkman. I've never liked him as a character and I can't see anything DC does in the future to change that. He's never, in any capacity, appealed to me in any way.

The only time I found myself buying a Hawkman title was the Jan Duursema reboot with the foil cover and the black uniform. I think the only reason I got it was for her art and cause I think she's hot. MMMMM, redheads.

While I don't see the value of Hawkman, I know the majority does. I just find it difficult to believe they are starting another series while Shazam, Secret Six and Booster Gold are cast aside.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
