    New Hawkman comic

    From Bleeding Cool:

'HawkWatch: Tony Daniel on Savage Hawkman:

“The first thing that I wanted to get rid of is the reincarnation factor, the Egyptian thing and the tragedy of him and Hawkgirl. All that stuff. A lot of convolution there. Is that a word or did I just coin a phrase?”

    huh.

    1. I don't consider Tony Daniel a writer
    2. The reincarnation factor was the coolest thing about all of the Hawkman versions post-Crisis
    3. If there is no reincarnation factor then this better be Katar Hol from Thangar...

Agreed! Johns played that up perfectly. Not only does it add a brilliant romantic quality to the character, but it also provides opportunities for "past lives" stories. I loved that characters like Silent Knight were made part of the Hawkman mythos.
      Hey! Check out the pictures.

Yeah Johns (and Robinson, don't forget him) built upon DC continuity perfectly with the past lives thing...

But apparently no one else since then has been able to do the same...Remember Jim Starlin's weird reboot one-shot from a few years back? DC's solution yet again is to scrap something good just because they don't have the writers stable to pull it off. Johns bent over backward to make Hawkman cool again, it worked, and once he was off the book it was a constant scramble to maintain the series. Heck, it actually became "HawkGIRL"!

Let's hope DC is doing Earth 2 with Carter Hall and keeping all the reincarnation material with Robinson on a JSA title.

^ Yeah but characters from the past lives like Silent Knight and Nighthawk and Cinnamon and Gentleman Ghost have traditionally been "Earth-1" characters....That could open up a whole new can of worms if they really want to go down that path....

Robinson and Johns did very well with the reincarnated Carter Hall. It was a great book with Rags Morales on art. But man, DC squandered it so quickly.

In all the various reboots in the last 2 decades, no one has ever brought back the original Katar Hol space cop. Which is weird, as that is the version most folks were acquainted with.

I always wished that Justice League Unlimited had a chance to continue a little longer just because they had just introduced Carter Hall, and it turned out to be a brilliant compromise between the Thanagerian mythology already built up on the show via Hawkgirl, and the new reincarnation stuff that was currently being explored in the comics.

Again, in the latest incarnation of the Hawks, I think they ran into that trouble of trying too hard to retrofit the continuity rather than just ignore it. There was absolutely no reason for example to reintroduce the Hawkworld version of Shayera or "Carter Hall Jr" into the series... which I think was pretty much the Shark Jump point of that downward spiral.

Toony Daniel really shouldn't talk, he sounds like an idiot.

Not a big Hawkman fan, but I started to like him because of Smallville. And Smallville even used the reincarnation story as part of Hawkman's history.

I think that's why they haven't mentioned the JSA because possibly they are all going back to Earth 2 and being pulled from the rebooted universe.
So you'll being seeing this stuff in the future.

I also believe that if this little "reboot" doesn't do worth a **** that they will pull the Marvel trick and say, "oh it's another Earth" and give you a choice to pick between this new Earth (the rebooted Earth) or the regular DC universe.
I would almost bet money this is what DC is doing now that they have all these 52 Earths to cop-out.

So if the Smallville audience could handle the concept, comic book peeps should be able to. Its probably more like Dan Didio and Tony Daniel didn't understand it.

Given the new 52 being converted back to the Silver Age incarnations for the most part, I hope that The Savage Hawkman will most likely be Thanagerian space cop Katar Hol with a tweaked origin.

Looks like they are going "Evil Doppleganger" approach with this new villain. Not quite Man-Hawk is he? Hawk-Venom?

arter Hall's skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archaeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor's latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? No matter the personal cost, Carter Hall must don his wings and become the new, savage Hawkman to survive!
When the alien creature known as Morphicius starts draining the life force from Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman, he learns that there's more to his new victim than meets the eye. The mysterious properties of the Nth Metal protect Hawkman – but in the process, they are also making Morphicius powerful! With innocent lives in the balance, can Hawkman turn the table on his enemy, or are Morphicius newfound powers too powerful to stop?
Using his unique gift for deciphering alien symbols, Carter Hall learns the secets knowledge of his new foe, Morphicius, even as his deadly power continues to grow! Unraveling this mystery is Hawkman's only chance to defeat Morphicius before he becomes unstoppable.
